Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
They played Breed at the San Francisco show in... hm, was it 2006? That was nice :3
Huh, so I guess Terminal Heaven's Rock is a bit of a hodgepodge, then? Since they ripped Back in the USSR's solo into that.

Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
Gr, now that you say that I'm confusing the two in my head! But the back in the ussr solo prettty much follows the melody, i dont get the connection, though i can see the similar tone...

Hmm? I gave a quick listen to Back in the USSR, the only part of the like the 10 second solo that sounded similar to Terminal Heaven's rock is the part with the repeating slides...

Nah, man. I think you've got it backwards. The Beatles totally ripped off of Terminal Heaven's Rock.

Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
Not sure if this counts since it's not towards a band or musicians, but the "WHAT'S MY NAAAAAAME" part of Monster C.C. (not to mention the C.C. part, Cassius Clay) is clearly a reference to Muhammad Ali.

Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
Yamanaka is obviously greatly inspired by Oasis. I'm sure we could have an entire thread dedicated to similarities between the two bands. I bet some of these have already been mentioned at this forum numerous times, but for the sake of the thread... ONE LIFE sounds greatly inspired by "Don't look back in anger". There are even similarities in the music videos. Yamanaka mentioned before how he was inspired by "Whatever" for Scarecrow. Cherry is perhaps the most obviously Oasisy-sounding, Oasis inspired song in the entire pillows catalog. It sounds similar to "Acquiesce". Not the pillows, but an Oasis sign is shot with the tank in The Predators' Rock'n'roll laydown PV. This is from a Spiky Brothers live: Does Sawao look like he is trying to imitate someone? Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there are plenty more.

Oh yeah, I definitely hear that.
I wonder who is influencing their new stuff. Any guesses?

Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
Beck
Definitely Beck.
Tokyo Bambi = Sexx Laws Also, I recall that they covered Sexx Laws during the Penalty Life tour. A cover version by Yamanaka was also used as BGM for the tour.
I remember that Yamanaka also stated how he "wanted to make a song like Green Day" when he made Youngster. They were even dressing like Green Day for a while with those lame ties...
Tokyo Bambi = Sexx Laws
ooh nice find! Sheer also pointed out that Nobody Knows What Blooms is similar to another Beck song.

CSS, and pure

how? Sawao was wearing a CSS T-shirt during that show where he messed up on Beehive. As for musical nods, he's been playing a lot with that art-rock stuff CSS is into. Also, when I saw CSS in Los Angeles a few months ago, the lead singer said in between songs, "I want to see your crazy dance." ...Although it might just be coincidence because she just says a bunch of crazy in English. and it's pure Rock And Roll
