Re: Manabe side project - Time Machine
This looks like a high school rock band where everyone plays guitar and they can't find anyone to play any other instruments.
... except in this case they're all over 30.

and that's a wrap. lock 'er up until we have a rip. I appreciate the enthusiasm seen here behind anything Manabe does, but seriously: how can this album as a whole not be wanky, boring, and irrelevant? Am I being overly cynical?

No, I agree completely. I probably won't even give this one a download.

Re: Manabe side project - Time Machine
I will feverently and blindly defend material from The Pillows because I love the band, but their side projects hold little appeal for me. I like them when they're together as a band, when they're off doing their own thing.... meh.

But from his video preview his parts look good.

Re: [2011.09.07] Manabe side project - Time Machine
Seriously, this sounds like it'll be awesome. Of course it's a gimmick, it's a guitarist super-album or whatever. Doesn't make it any less potentially rocking, and in fact makes it LIKELY to rock rather hard.

Re: [2011.09.07] Manabe side project - Time Machine
If it's just two or three guitarists on every track, that's not so bad. Anything more than that and it would definitely be wanky.

I fucking loved Discharge and Nine Miles is awesome for me. In fact, I'll go as far as to say that Discharge is the best thing Sawao has shat out since Pied Piper. Anyway, this Manabe thing will seem interesting but not really that amazing for us Western hemisphere plebes that won't know where half of these old guys come from I just watched some of the clips from the site, I think they're trying to go after that first teaser vid of Them Crooked Vultures' album ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBckNeRMXDY)

Re: [2011.09.07] Manabe side project - Time Machine
I tried to like Nine Miles and couldn't, but respect the fact that it was different enough to warrant a side project and Manabe was pursuing a genre that he loves. Sawao's side projects just sound like pillows tracks that didn't make the cut, the only one i've honestly enjoyed was Dawn Speech.

That sounds horrible, reminds me of when I was working at a guitar center, dissonance. A lot of those guys don't seem to play very good. Manabe almost seems to avoid playing.

It sounds like battle music from a Japanese RPG.
