Re: lol, Oasis.
We're talking exclusively about billing. "We" includes everyone in this discussion. Alucard asked why the "older and more experienced" band would not be billed first. The simple fact of the matter is that the age and experience of a band is completely irrelevant in terms of billing, and my response reflected that. Billing is based exclusively on popularity. A world-famous act will always be billed before a locally-popular act. It's that simple.
I don't see how you're applying this to what Alucard said. I'm pretty sure he was saying "Sawao didn't want to open for a younger, less experienced band" (though it came out a bit unclear, I think). Which has nothing to do with billing. Sawao has some pride, go figure.
Sure, it makes sense for a more popular band to play, and for a less popular band to open. But this isn't the issue here. Sawao did not want to open for Oasis, and I'm pretty sure he didn't consider billing in the situation.

Funny, I just read about that recently in this interview: http://www.carterwittmedia.com/jzjan10/Pillows.pdf

No, he didn't. Nowhere in his post or anyone elses was the term "billing". You read that in yourself. "why would a band that's older and more experienced open for Oasis in their own country?" It's cut and dry. The Pillows are more popular in Japan, and have been around longer. Why would they want to open for Oasis, who is more popular in the states, in their home country? Billing has nothing to do with this.

I don't understand the distinction. "Why would Band A open for Band B?" vs. "Why would Band A be billed ahead of Band B?" It's the same question, different wording. Obviously, Oasis wouldn't open for the pillows; it was a very reasonable request.
The simple fact of the matter is that smaller bands open for bigger bands all the time, even if the opening band is older (which, in the case of the pillows, as I demonstrated, is not really that much older by any significant measure) or more experienced (whatever that means). Even if the opening band is locally popular - actually, *especially* if the opening band is locally popular - it's standard practice for a big-name band to enlist a locally-popular band to open for them.

I'm amazed that Sawao turned this down. Usually he'll do anything that nets him a few yen.

I also thought Sawao was an Oasis fan.

Re: lol, Oasis.
btw, from reading mixi, it seems that it was likely because it was the record label rather than Oasis themselves who asked them and also because it would be a more interesting story that they turned down the offer.

They have the same chord progression, huh? Hm. If I recall, the general chord progression for both songs is one of the most generic chord progressions and has been used thousands if not millions of times in composition.
Using that as an argument is just annoying.

Re: lol, Oasis.
Im not arguing? Im stating a fact
Oh, OK. So you just wanted to say they have the same chord progression... alright. I simply don't understand how two songs can "sound alike" solely due to chord progression. I mean, there are so many nuances between the songs that make them sound almost completely foreign to each other, IMO. But, I listen to a lot of songs that have used that chord progression, so maybe I just ignore the generic progressions completely and listen to what's on top at this point.

I just about facepalm my head off anytime a discussion begins around here pertaining to song x sounding like song y.
