If I'm not caught up in finals, it's before the CA shows, we either find a drummer/I program the drum machine, and Sheer wants to, we might be down.

I don't care how shitty the band is, I just want to have a large pillows-fest. Or sausage-fest, however you pronounce it.

It's settled then. We have dibs on Hybrid Rainbow. Also, Skeleton Liar, Moon Marguerite, and Ladybird Girl.

Guys, we'd like to do something around tour time. I guess the weekend of the tour is out even though I would like to sponsor a concert on that Saturday... Could we do the weekend prior or weekend after the California shows?

Can you all give me an honest estimate on how many heads we could get out and party with us for this show? 200? 300? 500?

The 14th, 15th, 21st, 28th, 29th wouldn't work at all? Thursday nights would be tough for us on my end...

I will not show up to anything earlier than May 20.

Also, holy hell - what an optimistic estimate for attendance. I mean, there are only like 30 of us on this forum, half of which are on the east coast, half of which probably won't be able to make it. Anyone outside of this forum probably doesn't think it's as good of an idea as we do.

the pillows draw maybe 500-1000 people to their one concert in the most populous city in the world. I remember they once even tried to do two shows, but must not have been able to sell enough tickets, and ended up doing only one. How many pillows fans do you think are going to come out to the city just to hang out with other pillows fans? Or to see a pillows substitute? I'd like to be as gung ho about this as anyone, but I can't help but be realistic. What exactly is the capacity of this bar anyway? It sounds huge.

The bar could probably fit 200/300 at most. I wanted to know estimates because yes, I want to gauge how popular a show like this would be. Unfortunately this would be too big a commitment for my band if we're only playing to a few IM members, so we'd do it if people from the greater East Coast pillows fan community would go AND get our members to contribute. We would obviously poll the Facebook page first to get a feel for this.

I'm definitely in for the audience. I can't really play anything though. I'm okay with drums, but I don't have my own drums, so I can't practice or rehearse alone.

ladybirdgirl: the facebook page is probably the best way to get the word out.

A friend of mine is a film student about to get his degree (he worked on and is credited in a major documentary, Wordplay), and I'll bet he'd like to film this event. a cover show is a real labor of love by true fans, and it'd make a fantastic video.

I don't think any of us could honestly make an estimate at this point before doing any research.

The size of the turnout will depend of course on how well you promote it and how well you can convince people you'll put on a really good show. Perhaps if you can play with some other established J-rock cover band or Japanese/Japan-related band, that might help ensure a decent turnout.

the problem with using the facebook page is that in the post asking if the fans would go to a cover show, non-east coasters are bitching that the band should go to their cities.

hell, there's even someone saying an NYC cover show is going to take away potential concert revenue from the pillows because people from NYC would just stay home and see the cover band instead of travel across the entire country.

how do people that stupid even operate a computer

I feel like I could help out a lot in a cover event, but I don't know if I can make my way all the way to New York just to cover a few pillows songs. I mean, the school year isn't even going to be over...

Yeah, this is probably going to be the main bottleneck for most of us. I mean, hell, since you guys are looking for musical contributions, I'd love to pitch in on drums, but considering that I'm all the way across the country…

Yeah, if the gathering were anywhere else (that is, in the North West), Orochi and I could contribute to one half of a pillows lineup..
