Re: Questionnaire on the pillows MySpace
Not sure, but some people on that questionnaire had said they'd love English-language albums, which would be a terrible idea imo. That's why I mentioned it.
If you're talking about question #5, it was a poorly phrased question (obviously), but I think they were referring to special English-language versions of the packaging and liner notes—nothing to do with alternate recordings or anything, as I interpreted it. Bands that have markets in other countries/regions often release different versions of their albums, but the core recordings are always the same (even if, sometimes, they're released in a different order and whatnot).
Besides, it seems like the majority of commenters either want the original Japanese releases or don't care either way.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I just noticed that about 1/3 of the replies I read when I looked at it read it as "ZOMG ENGLISH SONGS WOULD BE AWESOME!1" and I was commenting on how that would be terrible.

Several English songs already exist. And some of them are awesome. I honestly don't care what language the pillows record in, as long as they don't have one version for the American audience and one version for the Japanese audience.

When you mentioned "English versions of songs" I immediately thought of Basshunter and cringed.
Dear ladybirdgirl, you pretty much have every single member on this forum ready to lay their life on the line to help the pillows. I am one of those people. However, I put the line at registering for mySpace.

Rock and roll! Yeah I mean there are enough myspacers offering their opinions so they should get their answers easily. I wonder myself how difficult it would be to get The Pillows into Best Buy for example on a national scale...seems like an aweful lot. Keep all your fingers crossed.

Do any major music store chains carry the CDs of any other Japanese rock bands? If not, then it's not like they'd start with the pillows.

Hella true. If I could see any Japanese bands at all being sold at Best Buy, it'd be... Shonen Knife, Dir En Grey, Glay, Puffy, X Japan, Malice Mizer, Miyavi, Dragon Ash, and maaaybe Polysics. Oh and for sure Asian Kung-fu Generation. No doubt.
I think the only real way to make selling Japanese artists in major chains profitable is if you hooked up some Visual Kei labels with Hot Topic. The goth kids would eat it up. And that's the only real option I can see.
Seriously, the people who'd fork cash over for a band like the pillows are people like us who already have the discography in one form or another. Yeah you'd pick up some sales from the guys who still remember FLCL and are wondering what this whole "Smile" and "Thank You My Twilight" business is. Then you'd have people like Mare who'd buy identical "English release" of any album just on principle even if it's only the liner notes that were altered. Other than that...

Holy shit! This is fucking awesome. I just hope they go through with this.
To Mare:
How precise would you say your translations are?

I've seen some japanese artists under INTERNATIONAL section of an F.Y.E store. I got Penalty Life under "The Pillows" and saw MY FOOT for sale. Supply is nearly always limited though.

Re: Questionnaire on the pillows MySpace
I got Penalty Life at FYE a while back, and I found My Foot at a Best Buy as well. I live in Orange Park, Florida. It'd be cool to see more albums in stores like these.

Re: Questionnaire on the pillows MySpace
Yeah! I got mine when I lived in Virginia but I could always go to the FYE at Miami.
You could probably still find Penalty Life or My Foot under Fooly Cooly in the SOUNDTRACKS section. That was annoying.

Re: Questionnaire on the pillows MySpace
The goal is to prove that DIGITAL music sales are more viable right now. Major retailers will be tough to reach out to.

Wow, really Grey? That's fucking stupid and you goddamn well know it. Seriously, what the fuck dude.
@Octave: It really depends on the song, and I'm a bit rusty right now, but the ones from say last year and the year before are all at least 95% accurate for the most part, I'd guess.
@ladybird: Digital sales may be the easiest way for the pillows to reach the American market, but there are also a lot of people that prefer physically owning a CD.

The whole "Mare is an uber pillows fanboy" is one thing, but saying I'm as dumb as Brye is another thing entirely.

Re: Questionnaire on the pillows MySpace
hahaha, no offense meant. just funzing around. and we all know if anyone's about to nab ANY pillows release, it's SuperTramp. (allegedly. you know, if we are to actually believe she has the entire fucking discography, including Special CD. Which I'm still somewhat doubtful of. She should take a picture of that. You hear me, Tramp? Photo documentation is required.)
