Former lead guitarist for Cosmic Cherry, Number Girl, and Hatsuiku Status (did I spell that right?), who currently plays with bloodthirsty butchers and her own band, toddle.
Of course Manabe's style is totally different from Tabuchi, but when he pulls the whole random-sounding up-and-down the neck solo thing live on songs like this and Swanky Street, it's the closest comparison I can think of.

it's definitely debatable which one has a higher level of technical skill.
-Please watch the video again and pay close attention to the solo. I assure you the notes he's hitting aren't random. Really, they aren't.

-If we're judging by the technical skill exhibited in [the pillows] vs. [number girl], [toddle], and [bloodthirsty butchers] through their respective recorded work...I think it's a VERY safe decision to make that Manabe (as evidenced by Kool Spice, Living Field, and the solo in Good Morning, Good News) is the better player in a technical sense. Be fair, now.

I'm not talking about Buffet crap, I'm talking about Keikaku crap. The solo for the live of Scarecrow was, in my opinion, a lot more emotional and less technical, so I loved it. The notes are indeed FAR from being random, and it was very well-played.
The one on the live video is just awful, Manabe seems to be banging random chords for the most of it, which comes across as a pale imitation of Tabuchi.
That reeks of Keikaku's attitude of "If it's not the most godly thing to ever happen to music, it pretty much sucks."

I still <3 you, I just think that your statement there is really fucking ridiculous. Manabe's not trying to do anything Tabuchi-ish, he was just doing a solo with a little bit more emotion than technicality in it. I can't wait to hear what Century Creeper's solo will be live, since in the band score he said "when you play this song, emotion is far more important than being technical on the solo" in the song comments.

And yeah, looking at the old stuff, Manabe's got the technical skills more than Tabuchi.

So when is the Anti-Tie Coalition going to rip on Sawao for wearing a tie, since it's overly obvious that the tie is somehow the universal symbol of everything that is wrong in the world? Or some bullshit like that.

But you criticize GNB, for example, for doing the exact same thing! If Manabe doesn't want to play it exactly the same as on the record, that's fine, but I just didn't like it very much in this case. I realize this is totally subjective but I have as much right to give my non-flaming opinion as much as any other member of this board.
That reeks of Keikaku's attitude of "If it's not the most godly thing to ever happen to music, it pretty much sucks."
Did you recall my analysis a while back of the pillows' entire career, particularly the part about their 2003-present stuff? You might recall me stating that I don't hate Penalty Life or My Foot nearly as much as some and find them to have some downright good moments. Overall, those albums I consider to be in the middle, and I don't even really *hate* anything but two or three songs this band has ever done. Again, I'm usually in opposition to the majority opinion on Keikaku when it comes to stuff like toddle or Zazen Boys III, and I would have the same opinions regardless of whether or not I ever visited that site.

I don't understand why you seem to take personal offense at the fact that I don't like the live solo. I already explained why I didn't like it (it was really disappointing to me in contrast to the album version; the Tabuchi analogy wasn't a very good one in retrospect and I should have thought through that some more.), and didn't flame without reason as some members of this board have been known to do. You like it, I don't. It's fine if you disagree with me but I'm getting a lot of anger thrown my way that doesn't seem warranted. There's no reason to get mad about it.

I wouldn't say you got any anger. I merely pointed out that the comparison to Tabuchi made no sense (and despite appreciating both guitarists, I pointed out my far greater appreciation of Manabe). GR was merely making objective observations, while providing his own opinion. Mare often sounds like he's just giving people shit, but he usually has a point, and I don't think he means any of it to be a personal attack.

I still feel like we're just pretending Manabe didn't fuck that solo up. To me it sounds like he's playing it with his teeth.

...

Which would have been badass. Why didn't he do that instead? :|

Also, maybe we should post those vids of Hikari in the GNB thread and start fapping all over them, ne?

Especially since I consider Kyle a buddy. I just feel like the style you use to describe things you don't like has changed a lot since you started visiting keikaku, and not necessarily for the better. That's just my opinion. I don't mind if you don't like it.

However, there's a huge difference between playing a solo with emotion and making random noise for effect. GNB and NG both have parts where it's really just noise done for effect, whereas in this solo even the most seemingly random parts are quite musical.

I ripped the audio off of the video and put it in my rio and I have to say I now like the live solo even more than before.

You're hella dumb. Don't get me wrong. Kyle made an ass out of himself on this one, too. That statement up there is just:dizzy: Apparently you just don't go to Keikaku, and then pretend to know things about it. Keikaku is shitty anyway. Why are we talking about it here? No doubt I need to make that clear for you I was asking a rhetorical question. It's because you all still suck.
