It's a straight, off-the-shelf Squier Jagmaster, just like you'd get in any discount guitar store here in the states.
Cool, cause I just won one off Ebay. And got really pissed when a few Vista series ones popped up a day later, like this kickass white one that's going for $330. But now I'm comforted knowing that the one I got should sound good, too.
Also, they used other people's gear the last time they came as well, it wouldnt make sense to bring all their stuff over on a plane. Lots of bands do that, they bring just guitars, effects and the drummers bring their snare, cymbals and sticks.

Also remember that one of Manabe's Mustangs was destroyed last year. They probably didn't want to take a risk bringing too much gear over.
And really, a plain-ol' Squier isn't that bad. I still think Manabe sounds way better on the Jagmaster than Mustang. But not as good as his Telecasters.

I saw Manabe with his Jagmaster and his tone was really really good. It cut through Jun's bass and Sawao's distortion. I'll never look at Manabe's live solos the same way again. It was absolutely amazing.

Manabe spends a lot of effort on getting the sound just right, and unless he's playing acoustic, you can bet that there is some effect dialed in, even if it's slight.
So if you get a Jagmaster and it *doesn't* sound like Manabe, it's unlikely to be the fault of the guitar per se.
The first effects pedal I ever bought was a Blues Driver. I'm still completely ignorant of effects, but it's obvious that you can go a LONG way WRT the HB and RH albums with just that pedal and a vibrato...so naturally a Danelectro Tuna Melt vibrato was my next purchase.
Again- it always brings me back to the fact that he can hear this stuff in his head the way he wants it, and he's got the talent, skill, and experience to make the sound come out perfect. The equipment is necessary but not sufficient....not that anyone here doesn't already know that...

How so? This is something I've been wondering about for a while...differences, pros, cons?

Jaguar > Jazzmaster
just my opinion
Honesly, they are both two different sounding guitars with 2 completely different pickups. I personally love the sound and feel of mustang more. Actually the Fender Mustang is my favorite Fender guitar period. It has a unique sound that differs from the rest of the bunch. Its all a matter of preference though.
No one guitar is better than the other. You just need to find the one that best fis you. Manabe sounded and looked the best when he was playing his Mustang. I think I saw a picture of him with a telecaster once which is awesome. I have a G&L Bluesboy (they are similar to tele-thin line, only a whole lot better) and I love it.

The Jazzmaster has a longer scale. The scale length is pretty important to the Fender sound, so it gets my vote. And I prefer the way the pickups sound. They both suffer from an awful electronics scheme and bad bridge/vibrato design. If you can work around those, they're great guitars. Very... indie.
