Thanks a lot Rika for hosting that, I was hoping to get a hold of this single at some point...
But in regards to the music itself... wtf? Gazelle city was almost a wannabe techno, and Sayonara Universe was meh. I'm all for The Pillows trying out a different direction in their music, but they didn't succeed if that's what they were going for in this single. TYMT had a much better incorporation of electronic/synthesized music in my opinion.

I think most of you are forgetting that this isnt an official single. You people are acting like this is their new direction etc. All it is is Manabe's crappy remix which if anyone wanted to check it out they could buy it at a show. I dont see what all the unnecessary fuss is for.

thanks rika (it's not against the rules ).
i really like the gazelle city remix. sayonara universe could have used more texture- i found it nice, but a bit boring.

Thanx Rika!
All I can say is that album is like I went to the mall to play DDR before I head over to the opera to see Sawao live in concert -_- I wish they used a real violin and real flute instead of a damn keyboard for sayonara unibasu. Gazelle city was ok, like one of those late night dance beats.

Thank you Rika! I'm downloading it now. And I'm quite curious to hear this, considering all the different reactions to it.

It seemed like one GIANT intro.
I'd have loved to see something like:
~Spacy Baroque~ for about 1 minute, as an intro...leading up to some awesome, epic, power rock ala TMYT verse. Something loud and kickass.
But instead, it just stayed on the same level for the duration. Like terra said, no texture. The fact that the vocals haven't changed and the instruments were fake are also mega minus points.
And about Manabe and the whole "electro master" idea. I'm not too sure about that. While I don't doubt his proficiency at mixing, recording, etc, none of his non-guitar work seems very complex or deep. EXCEPTION: Word of Mouth (Spiral Dub Mix) is awesome.
I enjoy Nine Miles a lot, but the electronic elements just seem cheap, just like Spacy Baroque. The sound doesn't cheapen Nine Miles, however...it's just expected. Note that I do not use "cheap" and "crap" synonymously. It's just nothing very interesting, or...well...you know.
And as for the Gazelle City remix, the structure just isn't there. What more is it than some spacy noises over a new beat, and midi melody of Gazelle City? Not much.

I don't think anyone was calling Manabe the "electro-master"
And Spiral Dub Mix is a severely watered down version of the original one. It's good 'n all, but Yoshiaki focused on the lyrics this time around, its a very important song to him, as well as Gazelle city. Which is why he made the choice for the single.
But it's true, his 'elements' do seem a bit 'cheap'
Of course everyone is entitles to their own opinions.

heh. I knew you'd be the first one to bite on that.

True, I basically took
I wouldn't underestimate Yoshiaki when it comes to synths or midis. He knows what he's doing.
way out of proportion. While he may "know what he's doing" and be quite experienced with it...there's a certain disconnect between that, and composing a heavily electronic-rooted piece that sounds really good. Not just something nice and listenable, but more really (as I said before) layered and deep.

Of course.
What I meant to say there is that he's experienced with midis , synths etc. Not that he's a master and the best in the world by any means. And that he would be able to do something that is better than what he put out on those two songs from the 'single'

I really enjoyed Gazelle city, and Sayonara Universe though a bit lacking was enjoyable as well.
This makes me really eager for a new Nine Miles album.

I can't believe there are people here that can actually like this awful remix yet hate on their early works such as White Incarnation and Moon Gold. I know it's not a majority of you, but I know some of you prefer this type of crap. I'm pretty open-minded to all "genres" of music including techno and electronica, but whatever this thing is it's just about the worst thing made by a pillow. I think Manabe is a genius and his Nine Miles work can be damn original and brilliant. I pray this was just some lapse in judgement and the band never goes in this direction again.

once again... there is nothing to worry about.

and it's perfectly possible to acknowledge something as musically mediocre and enjoy it, and at the same time recognize something else as being creative and full of talent and not like it at all. i don't think anyone has said this was a great work of genius, in any case.
