What makes it catchy to you?
The vocal melody?

I see what you are saying.

I just feel like Sawao's singing clashes with the guitars.

It's good that someone can appreciate it.

Well, Moon Gold has possibly their worst production values, so I'm sure that's part of the problem.

If I'm thinking of the same part than I agree. I wish we would see those kind of vocals more present in recent pillows albums.
Well that's just misleading.

Besides, TYMT is GOD, man.
Sorry ;] it seemed clear when I was typing.
I'll never dig TYMT a lot. I think smile is a much cooler album with some neat production. The experimentation that they tried on smile has a lot more substance than that of TYMT, which can seem kinda arbitrary.

It does seem that they could have had more into the album.

Where did you get that info? I feel so behind.

I think that my foot takes the cake for shitty production. The drums sounded so terrible and the grungy style it was mixed with just flattened everything.

Within the context of the album, Moon Gold's production is not an issue. The roughness suits the bouncy, youthful feel of the songwriting.

It's just my opinion. :X I think most of the songs are good, but they'd sound better if recorded a few years ago instead of when they were.

Sorry, I was thinking of something else. Don't mind me being intelligent today.

I thought you meant how much funding was spent in producing the album.

Regardless of the budget, the result could have and should have been better. I don't understand why Pantomime sounds so much better than all of the other albums until Kool Spice.

I can't understand how good dreams is acceptable to you. I have to imagine that anybody with a relatively broad experience of music would find it to be worthless crap. I think people dig good dreams and hate on moon gold because they restrict themselves to alt/indie rock and punk. You have to have a pretty shallow appreciation of music to be satisfied with something like good dreams. Call me an elitist, but why bother listening to crap when there is so much accessible, good music?
Ok, opinion on albums is fine. People can disagree, and share reasons why.

But now you're implying that only "musically experienced" will enjoy certain styles or songs? How do you know how much music I listen to? How do you know what genres people prefer? Your argument is so fucked up.

I can thoroughly enjoy electronica and its many subdivisions, jazz, classical, classic rock, indie "pop" (ie. The New Pornographers), generic Japanese pop. Living Field is one of my favorite albums. I can enjoy Cibo Matto as much as I do Aphex Twin or Vivaldi. I would undoubtedly say that most people who see my music library would call it "extremely varied".

HOWEVER, that variation has very little to do with the skill of the musicians involved - it's all about enjoyment.

Beethoven's 9th Symphony - believe me, it took more effort to write that, than it did Waiting at the Busstop. But that doesn't matter. I LIKE Waiting at the Busstop more, therefore I will listen to it and cherish it.

You can think of Good Dreams as 'crap' all you want. But when you start insinuating things like "people who have listen to a lot of music will hate this album" it gets ridiculous.

This rant shouldn't even have happened.
. Honestly, would you rather listen to Sono Mirai, Spiral, Good Dreams, Frontiers, and XAVIER for the rest of your life, or Ami ni Utaeba, Dear My First Step, Hello Girl, Sayonara Tansai Wakusei, and I Need Somebody?
Honestly? Moon Gold.

I didn't imply that more "experienced" people can appreciate music on some transcendent level. I said that people who lack a rich musical experience are the people who will be satisfied with good dreams. Hearing a variety and volume of musical styles doesn't make you smarter or better, but it does inform your future listening and it will elevate your standards.

And I hate that “opinions” bullshit. It’s a ridiculously glib and hollow argument. If everyone’s opinion is valid, and music is totally subjective, than I’m going to go record myself pissing in a styrafoam cup and demand it receive the same praise and respect as Bach’s cello suites.

Why do people have such a hard time with good dreams? Just admit it sucked. I think you will find that your copies of happy bivouac and lostman do not instantaneously explode as a result.

yeah and,
