Re: Sawao Yamanaka solo album - Discharge - 6/23/2010 Best songs are DAWN SPEECH and Deep Story. the burn bread in my clear sea was pretty good, as was Silent Ballerina. The Birthday remake doesn't really sound all that different from the original recording, which is disappointing, though the recording quality is better and the instruments are clearer. If he wasn't going to make a significant update to it, I'd have rather had a new song on there instead, but it's a good song. silver moonlight surprised me, but the fact that it's just a rocked-up version of purple moonlight is kind of disappointing. I mean, why not just have this one instead of purple moonlight? This is kind of disappointingly short (Birthday doesn't even need to be on here, purple moonlight should have been cut outright since silver moonlight is just far better), but overall it was an enjoyable listen. Thanks for the up dude.

Re: Sawao Yamanaka solo album - Discharge - 6/23/2010 Well, I can say one thing for sure: I'm glad none of this made it's way to the pillows discography.  The album has it's moments, but it's so short. I don't think Sawao had enough material honestly. I mean, Purple Moonlight and Silver Moonlight are essentially the same, Birthday is a remake, and Silent Ballerina kind of reminds me of The Scar Whispers. Doesn't leave a whole lot else. The Engrish really puts a damper on things, and that barely ever happens for me, but we've already beaten that dead horse. However, I do really like Dawn Speech and Angel isn't bad either. Purple Moonlight would be up there too if it wasn't for the weirded out Engrish, but I honestly do prefer it to Silver Moonlight. The rocked out version is all right, but I love the guitar effects and the bass and the whistling going on is a nice touch. I really like that mellow atmosphere as opposed to Silver Moonlight's. I'll give the album more listens though, hopefully it'll grow on me more.

Re: Sawao Yamanaka solo album - Discharge - 6/23/2010 Album length and Engrish aside there are definitely some good tracks on here. I think Deep Story and Silver Moonlight would make for great pillows songs if they were reworked a little bit. All in all though it was definitely a good album. There wasn't a track that I personally disliked (the only two that come remotely close are Music Creature because the vocals are pretty iffy even for Sawao and Birthday because its more or less a higher quality recording of the original and really just occupies space.) Anywho I like both Purple and Silver Moonlight equally. I enjoy Purple Moonlight for its very mellow nature and Silver Moonlight for the vibrancy it has in comparison.
