Yeah my new official stance is that I'm going to meet a girl and see noodles, as far as they've fallen.

It's kind of sad that the older I get, the more I realize Noodles really aren't that great. They definitely do have a share of really solid tracks. Much God Cable and Long Long Chain are killer, and She Her is fantastic (though sounds awful live). But man. They have the simplicity of the pillows, without the fun lead (even when Junko was around, it was pretty conservative), without the energy or vocals of mid-90s Sawao. I don't wanna come down too hard, there was a time when I was in love with em. But I've fallen far from the honeymoon, especially with the recent albums.
Also Fuzz Hill is overall lovely.

noodles have always been more a band I like for their style, tone, ambiance, whatever you wanna call it. That and Yoko's voice is unique. But no, they aren't mind-blowing or visionary.

And that's my Noodles experience right there. Starting with Long Long Chain they were really getting something together - but Junko's evolving guitar work - and apparently, songwriting contributions - were a big part of that. I love God Cable and Fuzz Hill, but they just took a big step backwards after she left. Their newer stuff, while not 'bad', is very "generic Japanese girl band".

I don't know about you guys, I acknowledge they're not the most skilled/mindblowing band, but I love every album of noodles, they don't really have a 'bad album' in my book, they're very simplistic but I love that.
Probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite Japanese Band

I'm a pretty big noodles fan, and I like most of their stuff quite a bit, but the last couple releases were kinda weak IMO... still excited to finally see them live, though.

Yeah, I don't mean to be writing them off... >>; Much, at least. It's still going to be nice to see them in some form.
"Well, the pillows sure haven't forgotten how to play Cherry. Or Girls Don't Cry. or Like a Lovesong (back to back). Or Shiroi. OR KANOJO WA KYOU, STRANGE CHAMELEON, SWANKY STREET, OR EVEN FRICKIN' DAYDREAM WONDER.
Yeah, they were actually warming up with cherry at the Club Motor (Seattle) show in '08; I was fortunate enough to be at the doors during it... it was awesome. *crosses fingers for a Seattle show this time around...*

I checked the sites for The Crocodile, Showbox, and Club Motor a few days ago - nothing yet.

I'll be in Slim's. See you guys there.
Anyone else who is attending the Slims venue in May, be sure to get there early to meet up and chill in SF before the show. And I mean early like 10am or some shit. It would be really kool if everyone was there and we could all meet up.
If I make it I'll definitely meet up with you guys so you can laugh at my hair and how short I am.
Theres no way I would laugh at your hair or how short you are. I too am very short, about 5'5'' But I'm really glad that I can finally meet you bro. I hope you can make it to the show. Wherever, whenever - I have a SF street address and a car, so if somebody organizes one, probably wouldn't be anything stopping me from going.
Thats great to hear, I'll try to keep things updated for everyone and organize a time and place so we can hang out before the show. I hope everyone on the West Coast side can make it to the SF show.

I've actually kind of stayed away from the later albums because of everything I hear. It's like I've been meaning to, but some other album comes up and I keep putting the rest of their discography on the back burner. I've listened to their first 5 albums, and Electric Rays, and so far I think everything except The Gravity Thief was amazing. They've got that real crunchy guitar tone I dig in so many of their songs, and yes, Yoko's vocals are unique. So I'm almost just as excited to see them as I am the pillows.

Re: the pillows 2010 US Tour!!!
I think there's a chance of the pillows playing other songs this time around. On facebook, they've been asking what everyone's favorite songs are and stuff. Since they're coming to the US soon, it seems as though they're trying to gauge the popularity of their older stuff versus FLCL/new shit.

You may be on to something. Then we're fucked, cause all I saw was "RIDE ON SHOOTING STAR!!!" "CARNIVAL" "HYBRID RAINBOW FTW" "OMG, FUNNY BUNNY" etc...

Re: the pillows 2010 US Tour!!!
....Meaning we need to pick a song (something easily agreeable, Strange Chameleon or whatever) and spam the fuck out of it?
........Or just bribe ladybirdgirl to relay the #1 answer as "Any one old song of the band's choice. Dear god please"
>_> I mean, how large of a portion of the non-us (i.e. FLCL) crowd have/have heard all of the post-Penalty Life stuff that's seen some form of U.S. release? Probably not too large. So they're gonna be hearing a few songs they don't know anyway.
