You're retreating from your original position, but it's either "I was wrong about X and Y," "no, you're still wrong and here's why," or you're just trying to cover your ass. Man up desu.
OK, I was wrong about the lead guitar because as you said, THOSE CLIPS WERE FROM THE CHORUS, which generally don't have active lead guitar lines going on within them.
But I see where I'm being an asshole here. I'm listening to them again and maybe I just over-reacted. Maybe I need to be more easy-going when I listen.
I keep on wanting to hear what I think of as "pillows at there best". Of course I'll be dissapointed with some preview clips... how stupid of me.

1/3 weakening your position and 2/3 admitting you were wrong. I'll take it. Seriously though, I'm sorry to make you the example for my argument, but it just really annoys me to see everyone jumping all over how the album's going to be when frankly at this point the only one that can tell for sure is Jomei.
@Jomei: lol I know right? We have people on both extremes up in dis bitch, lmbo

What I meant to say was.. no track feels out of place; it doesn't go from EXTREEME RAWCK to a soft ballad, sort of like how PP was

Re: New Album 10.14.09-Ooparts
Hush, puppies. It's clear that everyone who's posted so far, INCLUDING MARE himself, doesn't think OOPARTS is something to shit yourself over. That's okay. We'll all give the final thing a listen, but the best we can do now is to judge the previews. As for the jump from previews to full songs, yeah there's room for surprises, but if we're to learn anything from the past, it's that we can be pretty spot on with our sample-song analysis: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2942&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=pleasure+song&start=300I said WUWUWU was gonna be all about Scarecrow, PROPOSE, BOAT HOUSE, Skinny Blues, and Sweet Baggy Days. I was right. Cloudy compared YOUNGSTER to RUNNERS HIGH. He was right. And yes, Skinny Blues' outro instrumental did sound a bit like Skinny Blues. Märe was right when he called Century Creepers as the most interesting song. Kaze and I both thought BOAT HOUSE sounded a lot like Patricia, and that that's a very good thing. So yeah. These discussions are valid.

That was stupid, because I didn't really have any substantial opinion at the time (as you say, it's dumb to form any significant opinion about an album from just the preview). I guess it's a matter of stating your opinion on something when you don't really have one yet, i.e. BEING STUPID.

Oh yeah, wait.
@Grey: yeah, but I'm talking about the people that are simply saying OH GOD THIS SOUNDS LIKE ASS HOLY SHIT FUCK WORST PILLOWS ALBUM EVER THERE'S NO LEAD GUITAR WHY. Also why don't you love Pleasure Song? :'(
@Tidus: good time to just drop the discussion of you being wrong/right and just move onto song discussion at this point, as you're going into the backpedaling thing again lol.

Listen to No Surrender and then to Last Holiday Now listen to Stalker, then Trip Dancer Pleasure Song is cool just for the fact that I hear Sawao saying a phrase in Spanish But I still think WUx3 is their lamest CD

Re: New Album 10.14.09-Ooparts
As for the debate about lead guitar:
ITT Tidus doesn't know shit about writing a chorus, of course there isn't going to be any active lead going on there. Let's look at say I don't know, EVERY PILLOWS CHORUS EVER.
Not entirely true. For example, 90% of the choruses from Living Field. Maybe I don't know shit about writing choruses either, but I thought the interplay between the vocals and the very active lead guitar line in Angel Fish made for one of the best pillows choruses of all time.
And while these are just previews, I am inclined to agree with Tidus to some extent. I do miss that really active guitar style from Manabe—one of the most unique aspects of the pillows that has always appealed to me. That doesn't mean I don't like the newer pillows stuff, but at the risk of sounding like Culen or something, I prefer the old-style active lead guitar. It makes things a lot more interesting, IMO.
Also, before anyone else says it: yeah yeah, I know, way different style from 15 years ago. But something tells me they're slowly starting to revisit that style a bit, what with That's a wonderful world and now Primer Beat.
The bass here reminds me so much of Kool Spice, especially in Primer Beat.
The whole song, actually, reminds me of something off of Kool Spice (Koi no SUPAI ni ki wo tsukero, anyone?). More power-poppy, sure, but somewhat similar in my mind.
So anyway, I do feel like this album will be kinda…meh. I'm liking certain aspects of it, but it's just not clicking together like Happy Bivouac did, for example. My picks as of now, just based on that preview, would be Lemon Drops and Primer Beat. Dance with God might be cool too—we'll wait and see, I guess.
Just my two cents after one listen-through of the album preview.

OK... hehe.
For me, after listening to the album preview a few more times... I think this will be an interesting addition to the discography. Some of these songs sound very... new-ish. As in, "hmm... what does this fall under?", which may be why I freaked out upon my initial listen.
If there's anything we know about the pillows, it's that they can change their sound pretty significantly within the span of a few albums. With this album, we're getting something completely removed from the general sound of Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! If you can charge the pillows with anything, then it isn't going to be with their albums sounding the "same".

Re: New Album 10.14.09-Ooparts
@GR: Oh, I never said I wasn't being a jackass. @Raid: My point was that you suggested that simply having a rock song go into a ballady song made tracks on an album feel out of place, when that's EXACTLY how the first of the holy trinity starts out. @Orochi: You seem like a cool new user, and I like how you use reasoning and discussion in your posts instead of just bitching about shit without any reason. I suppose I should have said "pop rock choruses." I definitely agree that some of the pillows' most INTERESTING and fun songs have active guitar throughout, and that brilliant playing from Manabe on their older stuff is my favorite guitar work from him, but at the same time, many of our collective favorite pillows songs have no lead to speak of throughout the entire chorus, which was my point in saying that the lack of an active lead during the chorus does not indicate the lack of an active lead period. Also, Primer Beat sounds more Moon Gold-ish to me. I agree in general that a lot of these previews don't sound too promising, and I believe I stated so earlier, but it's hard to call with some of them. I'm pretty sure if I only heard a small snippet of some really great pillows songs from the late 90s and early 00s, I'd be inclined to be "meh, we'll see" at them.

All right, enough nattering about. Worst pillows album ever. You heard it here first. This isn't a prediction. It is an album review. Proceed with pillows apologetics / nerd rage edit: Yamanaka Sawao doesn't care about white people.

End of story. Lemon Drops won't lift this clunker out of the 4.0/10 range.

Re: New Album 10.14.09-Ooparts
We are witnessing the invention of a new genre. What shall we call this strange invention? >Mare: Well, yeah.. I see your point. But I don't know how to explain it, it's just that with some albums(My Foot,PML,Happy Bivouac) you can listen through them smoothly and nice, but with other albums (Wake Upx3,Pied Piper, and IMO Runner's High) you have a bit of a "bumpy" listen, the transition between songs feel rough. But that's just me I hope you understand what I'm trying to say
