No I'm not going to thank Twilight or whatever, that book sucks. Let's get back on topic: the pillows haven't put out a good album since '01
Edit: Additionally, I guess if the albums suck as much as you think, nobody's going to exactly be "cashing in."

Seems sort of funny that they're doing two greatest hits albums.
well, it's clearly an attempt by the two labels (king and avex) to cash in. fool on the planet is still a good intro to the band and they've made maybe two songs, smile and shiroi natsu, since then that would deserve to be on a best-of. the only reason that avex had them do re-recordings for Rock Stock is that they don't own the rights to the original recordings of those songs, king does...anyone that buys either of these is a tool. it looks like the pillows are finally accepting that they've run out of ideas.
You are a very positive thinker. However, you didn't take into consideration the number of people who are going to download it instead.

Considering the amount of debates there have been on musical taste and opinion on this forum.

Ummm, I'm thinking of just getting the acoustic dvd for now. I might cave in for rock stock for the 1989 PV and re-records. Flag Star will show up here eventually, I figure.

GOOD DREAMS and Scarecrow alone could make up for all of the other tracks that lack. Their new sound is nice and upbeat but it lacks the pillows flavor, I have to agree with that. New Rock Stocks are just a way to keep their old stuff fresh and who knows? We might just fall back in love with them. You know the first feeling you got after hearing the chorus of Swanky Street or Funny Bunny? The rerecordings are a fun way to remember the past. I can't wait for them. You need to give me more of a reason to agree with you here, because I have to disagree completely.

I wouldn't go that far with the bolded. yea they're good songs, but they don't make up for what's lacking. I'm kind of sad you didn't put My Foot in that list. Of all the post-TYMT albums, My Foot is the best IMO. It's solid, it flows really good, and has some real rocking stuff that evokes that "pillows flavor" of last decade.

My take on the re-releases is that although there are not many tracks on there older than 1997 or so, there are still a fair amount of new things on each of the new discs. I really hope what someone said earlier is true: That Flag Star is a unreleased single from the King Records days.

Re: the pillows 20th Anniversary Overload! New Releases
I thought the Pillows were running out of ideas too, but shit, My Foot is easily some of the most impressive and unique sounding music I've heard in a while. Wake Up! x3 didn't do it for me, but there were a couple songs that were still pretty awesome. I had pretty high hopes for Pied Piper, and it definitely followed through.
Long story short- The Pillows change their style; it's been clearly illustrated throughout their history as a band. Regardless of the music style, however, I can always tell it's the Pillows; and that's what makes them so damn amazing (at least to me).
I'm pretty stoked for the new releases, I don't care if it may be a cash-in on the record labels' part, it's still pretty interesting, I think.

WOW. A six minute song, there hasn't been one of those since Smile. That alone makes me happy. I can't wait to hear what this sounds like on the CD.

Re: the pillows 20th Anniversary Overload! New Releases
These new songs have me excited for the pillows all over again. Seems like the new stuff is turning out to be better than PIED PIPER, and I'm impressed.
