I haven't listened to the clips yet because the songs and video for the single was just so fucking horrible I don't think I could stomach any more disappointment from Sawao.
well, having a nirvana ripoff is nothing new. Thats what I thought first time I heard Mustang Hippie.
But it's not as blatant as it is in CRS. Also, which Nirvana song is Mustang Hippy ripping off of? I mean it's reminiscent of Nirvana, but I can't put my finger on a specific song.

C.R.S. sounds NOTHING like Teen Spirit, you guys are just being as fucktarded about music comparisons as ever. The chord progressions aren't even vaguely similar on the intro, and the vocal melodies are far from alike.

If you were to transpose the intro of C.R.S. to start on F like Teen Spirit, it would be

Teen Spirit: F Bb G Ab Db
C.R.S: F Ab Db Eb

Not sure if I should be using Ab or G# or whatever, but it's pretty obvious that you guys are just being deaf again.

Don't be so harsh. I assume the discussion here isn't about the chord progression. It's about the strum pattern along with the distortion that one easily recalls Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Ok, the phrase "TEEN SPIRIT RIPOFF" is an exaggeration probably. But I think it's totally rational to say "Hm. The intro/chorus strum pattern shares similarities with the one used in Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit. This probably has something to do with Sawao's influence from that band."

Done, discussion over. :|

I think you're reading too much into it Mare.

the vocals granted are really cool and I like em.

the begining is essentially the same aesthetic just with different chords. The melody, the strumming, the order and manner in which the instruments come in, are all the same/scary similar to the intro to Smells like teen spirit. First impressions are important afterall, and the first thing alot of people hear is "I must have picked the wrong song, oh wait, nevermind."

the song does lose it's ripoff feel as it goes on though. The more I listen to the song the more I like it. I get over it pretty fast.

on a related note. I really REALLY like the tone of sawao's new guitar for THE PREDATORS. Worlds better than his tele. It's got alot more meat on it's sound which rounds out with Jiro, even though the harsh difference was cool in songs like Sleepy Dragon. Anyone know what it is? was this already discussed?

I'm just saying that people are, as usual, highly exaggerating things here. Of COURSE it's going to remind them of Nirvana. I'm pretty sure Sawao himself thinks that the song is Nirvana-esque, and surely wrote it to come off that way, but that in no way makes it even close to a ripoff. There are TONS of songs with that sort of "guitar comes in, followed by drums and suddenly everything else" sort of start to them, Nirvana having a song like that is in no way special, it's a very standard way to start a song.

C.R.S. is very obviously inspired by Nirvana, but has a distinct pillows/Yamanaka touch to it and is a pretty nice song.

Edit: the guitar he's using is probably his new Cyclone, but it could also be the Schenker flying V, and he also has a Les Paul apparently. He tends to use a few different guitars in the studio depending on what sound he wants on a particular song, so it's hard to tell which one he used.

I'm surprised no one had mentioned the intros to Nirvana's Stay Away and The Predators' Recall Me.

Smells Like Teen Teen Spirit is very famous, so it's the first thing anybody's going to think of. I'm no avid Nirvana listener, so I don't even know that other song, lol.

That's definitely a way good example of having the EXACT structure for the intro with a different progression. :O

Ok, so that sounds the same too, you're right. I forgot about that. So i'll be more lenient on CRS, then.

Nirvana's Nevermind album has been in my CD player every week for a few years. Recently I've been listening to Smells Like Teen Spirit daily. I know that song like the back of my hand.

C.R.S. is so BLATANTLY modeled after Smells Like Teen Spirit I don't even know where to start my comparison. It's even more apparent than the No Self Control/Lithium comparison.

CRS = Smells like Teen Spirit

You have to be in fucking denial to say
C.R.S. sounds NOTHING like Teen Spirit
It turns to it's own song by the middle of the track, but seriously, It's nearly the same in every aspect. It's a pretty unoriginal move by Sawao.

I've made my points, and I see that they're being totally ignored.
