I don't know about any of your friends, but with the latest Guitar Hero craze going on...
i HATE guitar hero, oh my lord.... learn real guitar!! no you cannot play killing in the name!! each game including rock band has like 5 good songs each. it's all 80s bullshit
Doesn't that depend on what songs you think are good or not? Obviously the development team for the game thought all the songs were good.
Guitar Hero originally didn't make any sense to me, as a guitar player. Then I realized it was a video game.

dont feel threatened by guitar hero rits. Nobody learns guitar from playing it. ( but they think they do.)
anyways it's fun. There arent many songs on there that I really like but the ones that I do, I rock out too. It's good if you like to rock out but not really if you're very methodical in playing guitar since it's almost nothing like playing a guitar, and is very easy once you get used to it by comparison. (my friend's dad has been playing guitar for 40 years and sucks on GH but can play all the songs on it by ear.)

i dont know why that game became so popular, but i guess it gives the non-guitar players a good feeling about themselves,so they can fill more rockstars :/

It's good for perfecting your hand-eye coordination.

Also: Guitar Hero can develop an appreciation for the guitar and the bass, especially since a lot of people overlook the bass when listening to music.
And Guitar Hero 3 has more than just 5 good songs on it... Metallica - One, Paint it Black, Beyond the Fire and the Flames, School's Out for Summer, Slow Riders, Raining Blood, Monsters, Black Magic Woman, etc. Besides, the game's just fun. EDIT: Sonic Youth's on there as well, yet to my dismay, the song they have for 'em is Kool Things They should've chosen a better song than that, imo.

GH3's alright, but Rock Band is sort of the "true" GH3, seeing how the guys who did GH1-2 made Rock Band.
The drums are awesome if you mod them a bit.

I've always thought it would be cool if you can hook up your REAL electric guitars/bass/drums to something like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I know they make inputs to allow such things to hook up to computers. And instead of the button layout, it'd show it in sheet music and/or tab form. I don't think it'd be too hard for the game to detect the notes from the guitars, seeing how a simple tuner can show you what note is being played. Also, if Rock Band has the vocals section, it can be done with guitars.
This way, you actually learn how to play said instruments and still is fun. There are times when I look up a tab/chords, but I still can't figure out how to play things because it's just so hard to hear that one part. For example, Last Dinosaur's rhythm strumming pattern, I can't clearly hear how Sawao is playing it. Is it just a bunch of eighth or sixteenth notes with no real strumming pattern? You can also play the songs by yourself and still get all the sounds from the songs, lead or bass parts.

that is a cool idea. But do we really want MORE people that dont make anything original and just regurgitate the riffs of good musicians and then attaching songs about ex girlfriends to them?
I didnt think so

Arguably, anyone who then learns to play an instrument is an example of that... But it would be cool if a ton of replacements for a band would be readily available, practically anywhere. Plus, if people like playing, then they could very well make their own songs, which may not turn out to be complete, utter bull.

Guitar Hero has got nothing on this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBqjBmz4LNQ&feature=related
Nah, I like Guitar Hero. Though I do agree we need a game that could teach some of the things described here. Hell, anything that would help me learn relative pitch for sheet music would be amazing. It would probably be best on that newfangled "Wii" thingamajig.
