Who's the other person that voted for Smile? I'd like to congratulate them on their superior musical taste.

I know it's kind upsetting to hear your favourite albums get trashed, but isn't that inevitable with a band like the Pillows? They've been around for ages and they've gone through several radically different stylistic phases.
Personally, I really respect them for continuously trying new things instead of dicking around with the same formula forever. But a diverse catalog is going to attract equally diverse tastes, and fans of one "phase" of the Pillows aren't necessarily going to like any of the another phases. I imagine that there are very few people on this earth who enjoy "Good Dreams" and "Kool Spice" equally. They might as well have been recorded by two different bands.
I liked this thread. It was interesting to see people defend the albums that I don't care for, and attack the albums that I like. It's a good reminder of how people can react to the same things so differently, and how weird music is general. Wacky!

True, double true. Razorlike Blue, Energy, and Pantomime > much of Moon Gold in my opinion. And really, how can you not strut around stupidly like a clown when you listen to Pantomime? Got that funky beat.

If I had to choose, it'd be Good Dreams by a mile, basically.
I mean, I'm not so in love with Penalty Life either, but there are some fantastic songs on that record (THR, Moon Marguerite, Freebee Honey) that are merely offset by the presence of some of the worst Pillows material ever (Lonesome Diamond, Mole Town Prisoner).
While Good Dreams doesn't have nearly as many bad songs, it's pretty damn mediocre the whole way through. And, for me, that makes it the worse album.

Most would agree that they are easily the best songs on Pantomime. Especially Razorlike Blue.
