For those of you who do not know, that was a Simpson's reference to the episode where Millhouse becomes the sidekick to Radioactive Man, who is played by Reinier Wolfcastle. In this episode, the most costly stunt of the entire movie (a river of acid being poured down a hall) goes terribly wrong when Millhouse doesn't show up to save Radioactive man.

The goggles were to protect Reinier's eyes from the acid in case Millhouse is too slow or whatever, and obviously due to this quote da goggles do nahthing.
