Re: What does your family think about the pillows?
This is a great thread I never really thought about this. My family thinks I'm strange for liking Japanese music but they don't mind too much. My mother and father don't listen to them they have no real interest or care for them. My brother liked all their songs from FLCL and he is okay with them but doesn't want to listen to them anymore or even go to a concert which really bums me out. One thing I would love to share with my brother before I die would be for him to go with me to one of their shows. He can't understand them and that's his defense but I know it won't matter when he sees them live. I hope I can convince him to go. I would really appreciate it. EDIT: I haven't been on here for several months (been really busy) How is everyone?!

Considering most of the time they play in bars/places that serve drinks and food etc. maybe that's a way I can bribe them into coming...

Re: What does your family think about the pillows?
I remember writing on here that my girl dumped me 2 days before new years, so that gave me a lot of free time. But really I've just been hung up with my new job(full time) & going to night classes after. It can really put a dampener on your social life. I occasionally go to a bar or just chill at a friends place or spend the rest of my night reading. I've been talking to a new girl and she's really fucking cool its just I don't want anything out of it. She seems to really like me and I'm not sure how to tell her that we should be good friends. Its hard to turn down a girl when she wants to fool around with you.

I mean she is a down to earth kind of girl but not what I'm looking for. Call me picky. Lets not make this a thread about my taste in women. Stay on topic. I'm curious, what do your closest friends think about the pillows?

Re: What does your family think about the pillows?
I started typing this this morning but chrome closed on me so here I go again.
My friends can be divided into 3 categories: high school friends, college friends and online friends.
My high school friends are into idols and K-POP stuff. They know of the pillows and find them pleasant enough to listen to, but there's no real connection with them. I took one of those friends to see the pillows in 2010 and she enjoyed herself. I did share a burnt CD I made with some of them but they weren't blown away by it. I burnt my favorite songs on a disc for them and had them listen to it. It didn't go very far though. I don't really like to force people to do things so I didn't show them anymore. They still have the discs though out of loyalty for me and happy memories. One of them told me once, "They sound like exactly the sort of thing you'd listen to." I was kind of happy.
My college friends are even less familiar with the pillows than my high school friends. They like more JPOP and Hatsune Miku. Like my Japanese foreign exchange student said, "All the music you like is famous, but not currently popular." I was disheartened, haha. I have deeper friendships with these guys than my high school friends so I lent some of them the Lostman album and they were like, 'Yup that's so you." Some of them ask for more sometimes so that's exciting. And I found a guy who said he'd like to listen to them more. I have to give him the discography. And a girl came up to me to tell me she liked my We Are Friends shirt and turns out we went to the same show in LA. I see this random hipster guy wearing the same shirt as well but he looked like a douchebag so I never went up to him.
EDIT: I forgot online friends. They know less of the pillows than my rl friends do. I've met some pretty cool and diverse busters online, but things kind of fizzle out after we go crazy talking about them. One of my online friends is going to start school at my uni next semester. Most of them like Runner's High and Happy Bivouac the mostest. And a lot of them are Sawao fan boy/girls. But I'd rather not get into discussing the pillows' fanbase.
TL;DR
They are accepting of it and don't give me sass for it, but they are pretty much the same. They prefer peppier stuff.

Re: What does your family think about the pillows?
I have had a few high school friends who started out die hard fans and after the pillows went toward pop music they gave up on them. The friends I'm talking about are the two guys who did the girls don't cry cover for the contest. They have great taste in music but they will move on if they feel like the sound is not as consistent. My college friends have heard of the pillows through FLCL and like them but are not too involved in the world of pillows. They might have many of the FLCL tracks but have no desire to continue listening to other tracks or albums. Most of my college friends have gone to shows with me and they all had a great time and will always go to another show. Which really pleases me. I would like to add a new category, girlfriends. My past girlfriends have been open to listening but they would find one song they would like and play it from time to time (rarely). They have respect for the pillows only because of me. I feel like if someone else suggested the pillows to them, they would not have cared very much for it. My first girlfriend was really cool, her favorite pillows song was girlfriend. I use to play it all the time for her. My most recent girlfriend/ex really liked Swanky Street, she really enjoyed Manabe's lead in the song. tl;dr Most of my friends have heard of them and like them but don't actively listen. And my ex's have a respect for them primarily because they are my favorite artist.

Re: What does your family think about the pillows?
My GF went to the show with me last September, though she really doesn't care for them. She tolerated it really well and even got into a few songs from it. She loved Sawao and his little speeches. She even waited an extra two hours after with me so I could get my copy of Kool Spice signed. Needless to say, she's sticking around.

Re: What does your family think about the pillows?
Hmm the majority of my past boyfriends have been die hard fans. I've dated a few normies and they were otaku guys so they understood my like for Japanese music. They didn't get far into the pillows which I was okay with. I'm convinced you don't actually become a fan of the pillows until you 'need' them. You can only influence so much and it's up to them if they like them enough to keep pursuing.
I make friends with nice people so they're nice about it.

Re: What does your family think about the pillows?
I think my dad likes them? My mom hates them. Sister and brother actually love them. I have a lot of friends who like them.
