On the whole, I don't think very many of you like instrumental music.

I love instrumental music. Not to derail this thread, but let me just post a sexy example of instrumental music that works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op2U-qGUDkgAnyway, Grey's comments lead me to believe this isn't worth a download. If someone ups it to youtube I might check a track or two out.

Haha? wtf?
Nothing on here is as good as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQjTh1v_ps4 And considering how much there is I dislike about the posted link. That's saying something.
In general I find all of the music on this album pretty boring and artificial sounding. Which has been noted before.
Edit: But I'll point out that there was some stuff I did like. It just wasn't good enough. Manabe's song was pretty cool in some parts. But overall it didn't come together.
Also... the song structures were pretty weak/wanky in a lot of places. I don't mind a little shredding. But if you're gonna go for it... it better be in the contet of a good song structure... or really you're not going anywhere.

Most of these songs just don't offer much other than loose, unfocused guitar solos. I dig Timeline because it actually has a hook and the solos build off of it and work back to it pretty well. It sounds very Fantastic Plastic Machine-like with the airy ambience and electro funk effects and teams well with the guitarist's soloing. inb4 someone shits all over it. Not much stands out though for the rest of the album. And seriously, fuck Stutter Caster, it's all tense and no release. From the intro it sounds like it's gonna be a neat song but it just punches the gas and drives in circles for six minutes.

Re: [2011.09.07] Manabe side project - Time Machine
Gave it a cursory listen. I dunno, guys, I thought most of it was really cool. Then again, I also like listening to jazz fusion, progressive rock, and other so-called "wank fests". =/
Personally, I only dislike wanking if it exist solely for the purpose of showing off technical chops, and I felt like most of the guitar work on Time Machine was more on the expressive side. To be quite honest, while I love Manabe's guitar style, I'm not sure if it really works well in this context, where it's all guitar and nothing but the guitar. I do think that his style circa-Living Field might have fit better on the album, though.
I also have a feeling that I will get tired of this album very soon…
Okay. .mp3 rip: http://www.mediafire.com/?8qatwuxtjyuai4v.wav rip: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I9IBP4E9Enjoy!~
Thanks for this Spikeness, but how did you rip the .wav when I analyzed it in a spectrograph it reads as a transcode.

Seriously, I can imagine some slobby dude giving a woman some devious anal to most of these tracks.
Holy shit, I lol'd. I'd say that about sums up this album.
No offense, but you two could have issues. I only listened to Manabe's track and the last track and such thoughts never crossed my mind.

The porn they're used to watching is way more action-packed than most, I guess.

Re: [2011.09.07] Manabe side project - Time Machine
So whenever I listen to a new album, I always give it about a week to let it sink in before I form my actual opinions of it. Basically, Purple Night Love Affair has stolen my heart. By far and away my favorite track on the album. I actually went and looked up Naniwa Express, the band that the guitarist is from, and now I'm on a quest to try to dig up more. (Also, in case you hadn't noticed, yes, I do have a big soft spot in my heart for jazz fusion.) Beautiful Struggle is alright. Honestly, I feel like Manabe does better in a band setting than he does as a soloist (which is, interestingly, the complete opposite of what I would have said about his playing style circa Kool Spice and Living Field). That being said, even though I think of the song itself as kind of "meh", his solo is my favorite solo on the entire album. While most of the other songs were like one giant guitar solo, his solo stood out just because it was concise, very well-composed, and…hard to describe, but it felt more emotional to me than everything else on the album. Aside from those two, I liked Welcome! aboard!, Time Goes On You, and mon e dora. The other songs were pretty forgettable, but overall, I'd say I enjoyed this album a lot. Good ear candy.

That's probably why I like that song a ton; Manabe's a really expressive guitarist, and while the whole song isn't anything special per se, his tone and overall expressiveness make it pretty great to listen to in general for me. Definitely better overall songs on there, but yeah. Good stuff.

A little late to this but I thoroughly enjoyed Manabe's song.

Re: [2011.09.07] Manabe side project - Time Machine
Bit late too. I was really hoping this would pop up sooner or later, and it turns out I just missed the thread. Anyway, listening to this now, and I have to say, it's pretty good. I'm a big fan of instrumentals, with Paper Triangle, March of the God and Thunder Whales Picnic actually being some of my most played pillows songs. Some of the songs here sound like they belong as background music in a game, which I'm totally down with. I really liked "Beautiful Struggle" for that familiar Manabe sound and yeah, expressiveness. "Purple Night Love Affair" is smooooth and just nice to listen to. I also liked "Stutter Caster," "Timeline," "REBORN" and "Hungarian Dance no. 5" "mon e dora" is a little weird to me. Kind of broken up and just some guitar wailing without much to it. "Time Goes On You" could have been catchier or something, but I had trouble focusing on it. Overall, this is a keeper for me. I might drop one or two songs from my iTunes collection, but that's typical for me.

The only way I can describe this is, "the good version of the shitty music that plays during 99% of videogame montages on youtube."
