Stalker's not a bad song, but it's probably the weakest track on PML, IMO. For me, it never quite worked as an opening and always felt out of place. I think it would have worked better as a B-side or perhaps on a later album. It's good, but just doesn't give off the same vibe as most of the songs on PML do.
Yeah, I love stalker but I always thought it would've been better suited for something like Runners High.
I usually tend to skip that song and go right into Trip Dancer. Which by the way, would've made a superior opening track (I pretend that's how PML starts anyways). Seriously, you can't beat the intro to that song and the piano that kicks in during the verses. <3
Stalker's a good song. Though I agree that it feels a bit out of place. It's a very different song from the ones that follow it.
It really is a great song and I think the reason it seems out of place is that it doesn't compare to the amount of sentimentality that the rest of the songs have after it.

Suicide Diving is a good song but putting it after Swanky Street was a bad idea. It's similar to the feeling I imagine one would get when coming down off meth. I hear it sucks.
Probably feel something like committing suicide by diving off of a high structure. HMM.
This album is a very depressing but it's charming at the same time.
I guess it makes sense because the pillows went into making PML thinking it was their last album, right? That's probably what Swanky Street alone is all about.

Post Re: Please Mr Lostman's 15th
Stalker is too sexy a track for it's own good.
Makes me think bad thoughts

Stalker is the first album I ever listened to by anyone one that made me go,"Woah."
It was the first album that made me shiver and made me think hard about who I am.
I'm not trying to sound like some deep, hipster shit but... that album spells out all I am to myself and yells it in my face. It is absolutely my favorite out of everything I've heard in my life. Every time I listen to it, it's the same reaction. I feel naked and cold when I listen to it and I start to shiver.

Lostman is simply... me.

It makes me feel vulnerable and ashamed.

Lostman literally puts all my faults in front of my face. The thing is that I realized I like Lostman so much even though it says all these things. All these things that are me. It's an awful feeling to have all of your insecurities looked at and examined all at once. I'm an unconfident person, and I hate being put on the spot. Lostman picked me up as if I were a pinned butterfly, gutted me open, and put me on display for everyone to see. And somehow, all the jumble in my head came to the conclusion that I'm alright.

Lostman is the reason I accept myself.

"These twisted times don’t matter, we have found each other."

I found Lostman.

:eh:

PML, to me, is one of the most cohesive (if not the most cohesive) album the pillows have ever released. Aside from the aforementioned Stalker, all of the songs come together very well and achieve a certain aesthetic. Some of us agreed in another thread that the songs on PML have to them a feel that is reminiscent of autumn. I think that's a good way of describing the sound of PML in general. The songs are rife with the sentimentality that autumn seems to dredge up, and whenever I listen to PML, I can't help but think of my childhood. A big part of that might've been due to some of the imagery in the Trip Dancer PV leaving an impression on me, but still. Because of this, I feel a certain intimacy with PML that few other albums (by any artist) can boast.

I agree with Octave Flow that Trip Dancer is a much better opening for PML than Stalker, also.

I think Stalker fits in with the rest just fine, almost because it is an opening, and isn't stuck somewhere in the middle.

EDIT: Bah, I'll get into it a bit more. To me, the album as a whole seems to nail a lot of points on the scale between loneliness and togetherness, and the feelings evoked from such points. Stalker seems spitefully lonely, especially compared to Ice Pick or Kanojo wa Kyou (which is almost stalker-like itself, in theme), which seem to be resigned and obsessive, respectfully. Most of the points are definitely on the negative (lonely) side of that scale - even in songs like Strange Chameleon or Please Mr. Lostman, where there is at least some degree of companionship.

That's a good point. If it had been placed in the middle it would have interrupted the album's flow big time.

I also think Stalker fits, for the most part. It is a little different from all the other songs, since it's a little harder/heavier, but as far as subject matter goes, it works for me.

It's really hard for me to pick one favorite track from PML though. Strange Chameleon really speaks to and about me a lot, and that solo just makes me shed a manly tear.

Also, I'm really, really glad 1989 and Ameagari happened. They also capture that...despair that I love so much from the pillows. :shred:

There are many moments on PML that do this for me, and the solo in Strange Chameleon is certainly one of them.
