Post Re: Moshing at pillows shows
I was at the seattle show, I just didnt arrive early and came with a buddy of mine. I wasnt the most crazy person jumpin around but I was bouncing around. I find it funny that you guys act like you know exactly what kind of person I am and what you would do if you ran into me, but you may have already and didnt do what you say you would.

Wait, what's this, you're saying you actually restrained yourself during a show? It's almost as if, as most of us have figured, your tough guy act is a bunch of bullshit you put on because you're on the internet.

We would have if we knew it was you, and we knew you had such terrible opinions.

But seriously, all of the things like "we'd blow smoke in your face so we can enjoy the show better" were obviously jokes aimed at your idea that you're entitled to enjoy the show your own way even if it hampers other peoples' enjoyment.

lol tough guy act. I didnt restrain myself, I did exactly what I felt like doing. Contrary to whatever magic box you pull your beliefs behind people's motivations for their actions from. People dont mosh to show how tough they are. ( at least punks dont) they do it cuz its fun and they feel like it.

Ive been in enough pits to know what i'm capable of when it comes to slamming and moshing. I dont need to prove anything, im just enjoying myself, and many people with that history will do the same.

But here's the thing, I wont hit a girl even if she is moshing I wont go full force with her, if you arent moshing sorry if I run into you, shit happens, if you tell
me politely you dont like it ill be considerate and probably apologize if I lose
my footing and run into you, I concentrate on bouncing off ppl who are doing the same as me. But If thats not good enough for you to let me have my fun, screw you, you're just an oversensitive insecure prick

lololol

I don't know you in person, and don't honestly pass any judgments on how you likely act IRL, I'm mostly just kind of picking at you for the "fuck you guys" attitude you've been displaying all over the place. I would like to hope that everyone is generally somewhat considerate, even when they like to pretend otherwise (see: all your earlier posts in here). Seriously though, compare what you just posted to all your other posts earlier in this thread, the discrepancy is absurd. If you could have started having a real discussion like you just did now from the very start, maybe people would respond nicer.

Post Re: Moshing at pillows shows
At the Austin show, my buddy and I weren't moshing - we were really getting into it though, jumping up and down, headbanging, etc. I started pumping my fist and yelling, and then a group of three or so guys next to us starting following suit. I thought, "Hey, cool."

Then out of nowhere they started a mosh pit, in the middle of the crowd. I was right next to them. Personally, I thought it was hilarious - they could not have picked a worse crowd to start moshing in. After about 20 seconds they'd made a sizable hole from knocking everyone else back (including me) when one of the bouncers stepped in the middle of them and shut it down. They then spent the rest of the show standing completely still (except for one guy who went back to fist pumping, he was cool I guess). I'm all for moshing, but I think it should be confined to right in front of the stage. If there isn't space there then you probably don't have the right crowd - which just isn't going to work out, no matter how badly you want to mosh. There has to be a certain tacit agreement among most of the concertgoers in order for it to happen.

The people shoving during noodles, I really didn't get. The music just... is not like that.

Huh. From what I could tell, nobody was even moving during Noodles' set at the NYC show. Like a field of statues. I felt really uncomfortable expressing any excitement during their first few songs. (After which I came to my senses and had fun. If they don't want to enjoy Noodles, who are they to stop me from enjoying them? :shred:)

EDIT: And my enjoyment doesn't involve shoving others. Just want to clarify

I only really enjoyed the last three songs. Mostly because it was old Noodles stuff and songs that felt like old Noodles stuff.

Post Re: Moshing at pillows shows
I used to mosh, but never at ANYTHING like a pillows show. I used to go to a lot of heavy metal shows, including Symphony X, Opeth, and Dragonforce. Probably the most fun I had moshing was at the UCLA Dethklok concert (which I had to sneak into just to see). But I didn't mind moshing at those shows because they're a fricking heavy metal show. That's what people do there, and it doesn't ruin anyone's fun.

At a pillows concert, the opposite is true. Most of the audience wants to relax, have fun, and enjoy Sawao screaming his crazy head off and rocking out. This is true of most indie shows. Maybe there's a bit of...I don't know if it's called dancing, but whatever it is, it's very subtle...

I'm done with moshing at concerts in general, even the heavy metal shows. I don't mind if someone's moshing at the next Opeth or Mastadon show I go to, because that's what you should expect when you go there. However, I shouldn't EXPECT to have people moshing and running into me at a concert like the pillows. Moral of the story: don't mosh if moshing means being a dick to everyone around you.

Fortunately, I didn't have to deal with any of that at Pomona or the El Rey these past couple years. My fiance and I have rather sensitive hearing, and even with earplugs, some of the music is LOUD, so we hang out in back for most of the show. Plus, aside from simply wanting to be physically closer to the band while they rock out (maybe I'll feed off their rock energy?), the only reason I would have to hang out up at the front would be to snag a pick from Manabe. But I already have my 20th anniversary book signed by all three, so I don't mind as much missing out on some pillows swag these days.
