Thanks!

Didn't Sawao pretty much drop his guitar when the ROSS incident happened? That's what he was referring too probably.

Tossed it off and chased the guy off the stage, pretty much.

What was up with that? I saw it, but never really knew what happened.

It looked like the guy ran up on stage, put his hands on Sawao's shoulders and runs back to the crowd. Then Sawao puts his Cyclone down and chases the guy off.

Then starts saying "Nani o" something. Then cools down and says "Let's be friends" to the audience.

Is that the incident we're talking about?
Did you not throughly read my post? I said I saw P-90s in the GIBSON he was using at the show. I know both guitars look exactly the same.
My point was if you were close enough to tell what kind of pickups he was rolling with you could probably have also read the name on the guitar.

The Sago has humbuckers while the Gibson has P-90s. I said I saw P-90s.

As much as I hate to, I'm going to have to side with Jedi, as P-90's would be incredibly noticeable, much moreso than any other feature of the guitar.

They're even noticeable from the concert pics in the other thread.

P-90s aren't always noticable, especially when covored, a la the Casino...but yeah, you've got it, HBs on the Sago, P-90s on the Gibson.

I wonder why he didn't give his signature P-90s. I guess he wanted HBs but couldn't get a DC with them or something.

Hb's are probably more varied with tone than P-90s, not to mention the microphonix.

Humbuckers own P-90's. I have no idea why P-90's even exist. If you want a "single-coil" sound, just get a humbucker with a shunt switch. Manabe made the right decision. Anyway, P-90's are extremely noticeable because they only have one row of poles in the middle. In the rare event that they are covered metallically, it's more difficult, but if I recall correctly, Manabe used black covers.

I'm aware that P90s have just the one row in the middle, I'm just saying that I don't know how far Jedi was, and from casually watching the videos, I didn't even notice (wasn't really looking at the pups though, I was trying to see the headstock).

Speaking of his Gibson (which has seen some serious wear to the paint in the short time he's had it), I got to touch it tonight since I got DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF HIM FOR THE WHOLE SHOW. More in the full report tomorrow. lol

I was explaining it to MyFoot, although I am aware that both of you know full well what a P-90 looks like. I was just stating that - from a much greater distance than one could read a headstock - a P-90 is easily recognizable, if not the most recognizable pickup in existence.

Anyway, perhaps Manabe pseudo-wore it out (or just treated it really poorly) just so he could be one step closer to Bob Marley, haha. So we still have no idea why he's not using his signature guitar? Maybe he was just trying to make a quick buck by putting his name on a guitar.

He used the new guitar at every single show in Japan since he got it, and he commented that it gets exactly the sound he wants. I'm assuming he likes and values it more than the Gibson if he's willing to bring the Gibson to the U.S. over his custom.

I wouldn't say that either. There are quite a few more recognizable than P90's, to me at least.

He's obviously going to say it gets the exact sound he wants no matter what. Don't be silly, now.

Would Sawao's Cyclone be stock then? Or has he changed pups too?

He did something to it; I remember in that interview with the Polysics guy him saying something about it only having a Front and Back pickup selection; no middle.
