Satou: I don't think it's fun to copy the drums on this one (laughs). When you are playing it, please play as if John Lennon were singing in front of you. That was Yamanaka's request when he wrote this song. It should probably have an ambience similar to 'Mother'.
Haha, oh Shin-chan.

I wish I understood what Sawao meant about the tension chords and matching the melody. The man is a master with creating melodies, and I'd love to learn some of his tricks.

i fixed that part a little... maybe it'll make more sense now?
pulling at straws here, but maybe he means keeping his vocals in tune with the chord. i.e. if the chord is major, the vocal melody is major.
oh, and if you hadn't figured out by now, their 'difficulty level' seems to be backward (from what i'd expect, anyway...). C is hardest, A is easiest.

Even though I know nothing about any of this stuff it's interesting.
Shin laughs a lot, doesn't he?
Oh, and now I guess I know where the name "Blues Drive Monster" came from . . .
Manabe: Sound-wise it's crunchy. On the clear parts, I use the Blues Driver; for the bridge my standard Big Muff. During the bridge, when I push the fuzz pedal the song has more adrenaline. The main riff is difficulty level C. It's difficult. First, if you can't spread your fingers very wide, you won't be able to play it. Even on the A melody part in the middle, there is an arpeggio where you have to wrap around the open string in high position, and in various parts there are phrases where I make use of the guitar's echo. The guitar solo is an octave melody with very fast picking. This also difficulty level C. Because this is my only guitar solo style, please do your best. If you don't practice enoguh, you'll run out of gas in the middle, so think about your pace.
How the hell are those harder than Swanky Street's solo.
edit: Good job translating! Thank you!

are tension chords = suspended chords? the words tension and suspension are about equal in meaning, but the chords he plays.. i've only ever heard them called suspended chords. am i nuts or something?

Yes.
Suspended chords = "Tension" chords
They're called tension chords because they "spice" the emotion of a song better than using all major and minor (and seventh) chords.
