You know, I gotta say, I'm pretty damned surprised there wasn't a topic about MtG on a board as nerdy as this. Now that I'm in the military and surrounded by loads of youths with disposable income, I find it kind of odd that so many are into this game that I started playing way back in the day (middle school.) It's kind of a nostalgia trip, and it's still a blast to play (if nothing else, a good, expensive timesink.) Lately I've been playing EDH/Commander with my group of friends and it's been pretty fun. Do any IM'ers still play? |

I played a few years ago when I was still in college. It's a lot of fun, but it's such a strain on the wallet. |

I played a lot in middle school and a bit in high school. This was mainly from 7th edition to I think the Kamigawa block. I mainly played with a deck that was a heavily modified version of the Spectral Slam preconstructed deck from Judgement. I don't have too much interest in mtg anymore. My brother recently regained interest in mtg so I've been playing with proxies to modernize my old deck to play with him. He's been playing with people at his school and they mostly play commander. A couple of my friends play commander too. I guess that's the popular format these days. |

I used to play back in the day, then stopped, then dabbled, then stopped, then downloaded Cockatrice and spent waaaaaaaaaaaay too many hours building and refining cheese decks to fuck with people, then stopped dead again back in the Spring after about a month of wasted (but fun) time. Love/hate relationships as fuck with this awesome game. |

So I attended my first official Magic event in any capacity this weekend: it was the prerelease of the new set Fate Reforged. This consisted of a sealed draft tournament (you get 6 booster packs; choose a minimum of forty cards, basic lands provided) in which there were 5 rounds of 2/3-game matches. I, unfortunately, went 1-4, which kind of sucked. My deck wasn't awful, but it wasn't good either. I kinda got boned on cards a little bit, without having a solid win condition and virtually no flying creatures. I'm a little butthurt, but I suppose I could have played better as well. Right now I'm constructing a standard deck so I can play with more n00bs off the street. I've got a pretty badass idea for an EDH deck, but it would be super cruel--pretty much able to wreck face once I get 6 mana. Has anyone else been playing at all? |

I played a lot around the Scars of Mirrodin set. Thinking of all the money I sank into fat packs trying to get an Elesh Norn makes me cringe. It's not even good IT JUST LOOKED COOL |

Well, did a draft with friends at PAX East last week, which was fun. Now I want to play more, lol. |

It was a pretty good day. I've now developed a deck that works around using the new exploit ability and it's soo fun. |

Congrats, that's pretty hardcore. I made a blue deck focused on counterspells, scrying, and milling the opponent's cards away and now I can't seem to make any decks that trump it because blue is ultimate troll-dick cheese strats. |

Blue can get fucked up pretty hard by red aggro/anything that doesn't really lose tempo from milling, i.e. dredge decks. |
