Ok, I think I may have jumped the gun with my initial assessment of the mouse input.
Trying it more I'm realizing it's MY mouse that seems to be the problem. It tends to stall or moves sluggishly when I try to make slower, more subtle movements. I initially thought it might have been because I rest my wrist on the table surface, but even when I try to hold the mouse on top with my wrist off the table it would still hang up. I seem to have no middle range, it either zips around the screen or drags its feet. Look here:

He is barely moving that thing and he can get all over the screen with a great sense of control. I was hoping I could get a suitable adjustment in pointer speed through the in-game sensitivity slider but that only helps some things and hurts others. Changing my mouse speed to 4X gets me approximately a movement speed I can work with but it is way harder than it should be to hit beats that are spaced out between longer distances because the high sensitivity is difficult to predict. Let alone it's wobbly as all shit and non-easy difficulty beat markers seem like trying to stop a lambo on a penny.
It crushes me that I can't play this!

This is my mouse, el-cheapo Wal-Marto. apparently it's supposed to be either 800dpi or 1000dpi, which sounds like enough, but I'm not sure. All considered, I think it might be that my current mouse is just worn out. But I feel like a higher performance mouse would be a good idea too.
And I've found three different Ride On Shooting Star beatmaps. lol. And one kono yono hate made but it says the author didn't upload it properly and it won't download.
Naturally I'm trying to think of pillows songs that would work well for this game. OVER AMP springs to mind.

Can't I just do some fucking work and have no one ask me what I'M doing? It's not like you would understand or care. They automatically think I'm 'selling" anything I touch. I usually hang in this little room to work, study and shit. But it was taken away from me. My mom KNEW I used this room for working and studying and just hanging around. SHe ends up moving my brother's bunk bed in here JUST so they can fucking sleep. THAT'S ALL THEY FUCKING DO. AT midnight every night they come inside the little room just to watch a bit of tv and fall asleep. Here is the catch! They were watching tv in the living room and just come here to watch even more? WTF! I then have to move Everything I Was doing into the living room and work. The living room has a lot of decorations and not many places to lay my things. I can't even leave stuff laying around without someone touching it. Before my brothers moved into this small room I could just leave my things laying around and not worry about someone touching them. I mean my family was still nosy what I had in my boxes. Every time when I was in college they would come into the little room and look through my stuff. I was taking fiber pills at the time and my mom was all "Your sister told us about the pills you're taking. JUst be careful and don't do it ok? I was thinking WTF? Why the fuck would she even look through my things to begin with? THen one day I came home and saw that my parents had moved the bunk bed into the little room. I was so crushed and sad. I was depress for the rest of the day. WHen my mom saw me looking at the little room, her response was "What's wrong? You look upset *she smiling*" All the things I had in that room were moved to a little corner of the room and just pilled up against the other.
