Re: To pokeman fans out there. All you 2 people.
Can anyone here tell me what the point of Pokemon Platinum is?
Unless I'm completely ill-informed, it seems like Platinum is to Diamond/Pearl as what Yellow was to Red/Blue. A very minor evolutionary upgrade - plus a few new Pokemon, more of a focus on a few older Pokemon...a few new features here and there. It doesn't seem like it justifies it's own game - looks blatantly like a cash-in.
Now a Gold/Silver redux DS game would be killer. Mainly cause I couldn't care less about 95% of the pokes in Ruby/Sapphire or Diamond/Pearl.
Seriously, the original 150+the Gold/Silver set are really all you need. To be fair, there were some cool Pokes from the newer games...I liked Sableye, Lucario, the new Eeveelutions, Togekiss, and Murkrow. But seriously, R/S and D/P just reek of being out of ideas. Bronzong? Chingling? Nosepass? Seriously? With each new Pokemon they create, they should really be asking themselves: "Will anyone seriously like this Pokemon and want to it on their team? Is anyone here really FOND of Drifloon?"
Groudon and Kyogre? Please. Darkrai looks like it came out of a 5th grader's sketchbook labeled "EVIL SHADOW POKEMAN", Palkia's a fatass, and Dialga...well, Dialga's pretty tight. But then the games shit on themselves by including Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf. WHY??
Let's talk about Suicune, Raikou and Entei. Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. That's where it's at.

Articuno will always, always be amongst my favorite pokeymans because he allowed me to catch Mewtwo with a Great Ball. (And I was loopid and used my Master Ball on Articuno cuz I was all "LOL WUTS DAT POKEYMAN WHOAH SHIT LEVEL 50!?")

Drifloon and Bronzong are really cool in my opinion, first of all.
Secondly, Platinum is going to have an extended storyline, new characters, new areas including the torn zone, which looks really cool, as well as a new battle frontier, new forms of Pokemon (alternate versions of Giratina, Shaymin, and it appears Rotom, which will likely have different stats and moves than their original forms), new sprites for Pokemon, new online functions, new mini games, and quite possibly new move tutors, which sounds like a small thing to the casual player, but new moveset possibilities are huge to competitive players. Think it's not enough? Watch how much it sells.
Thirdly, this whole "I only like the the first [insert number] Pokemon. All the new ones suck they're stupid!" argument is totally bogus and fueled merely by nostalgia. There have always been junk filler Pokemon (Farfetch'd anyone) that are worthless in battle, silly-looking, but appealing somehow anyway. A lot of people really love the new Pokemon. edit: Just pointing out how ridiculous it sounds that you liked Sableye but not Bronzong, who is a beast to use and a bitch to fight. But yeah, anyone who thinks the new Pokemon suck is free to challenge me. We can even do it on shoddy battle if you don't have the games. (^ー^)b
Anyway, I'm probably gonna import this for the game as well as for potential Japanese practice. I think Mare is going to do the same. [/end pokemon rage]

Re: To pokeman fans out there. All you 2 people.
I'm not saying the new Pokemon suck, stat-wise, like in battle. I know Bronzong is a god and Sableye is pretty much worthless. I'm just saying a ton of the original design has left the people at Pokemon HQ. I mean, at least Farfetch'd was kinda cool looking. A duck with a leek, ok, not crazy original, but Bonsly? Seedot? These things don't convey "Pokemon" to me, they convey "weird little...creature..thingies." Yeah, some of it's nostalgia, but I can still recognize when there are some cool-ass Pokemon in the newer games. And I'm not saying the first 150 were gold or anything. Yeah, Voltorb, Grimer, and Paras are all really lame...but it seems like there's more and more "filler" in terms of both stats and design of the new ones.
So yeah, while Drifloon/Drifblim may be able to do you well in battle, that's not what I'm getting at. I'm trying to say that...Drifloon...is a fricking purple balloon, with an X on its face, and two strings with hearts on the end. Know what I'm saying?
From a competitive gameplay perspective, Platinum will probably be a worthy purchase. And yeah, I guess this just opens more strategic possibilities (compared to your comparatively limited scope in Gold/Silver). But man. I feel like if you're a kid just getting into Pokemon and Diamond/Pearl was your first game...the same sort of Red/Blue magic just wouldn't be there. I'm asking too much. Forget I mentioned it.

No, I really don't know what you're saying. Drifloon is really cool in a lot of people's eyes, and it's not even THAT strong. Drifblim is UU tier.
Again, that Red/Blue magic thing is pure nostalgia. The kids just getting into it love it, and they love the new Pokemon as well as the old ones.

Re: To pokeman fans out there. All you 2 people.
Fuck yeah I'm getting Platinum. I like how the newer games have attempts at actual storylines instead of just being like "GO GET YER BADGES, FIGHT YER RIVAL AND BECOME A POKEMAN MASTAR!!!1!ELEVEN!!" Yeah, at first I looked at some of the new Pokemon and was like WTF IS THIS CRAP, but then when I started playing and realized that the new ones really weren't any more ridiculous than the original stuff (for the most part...there are several that are kinda :/ visually, they look like fucking robots and shit), and the strategic potential had been opened up to a ridiculously complex level, I got hooked.
D/P isn't just about the new Pokemon either, the rehauled battle system and stat setup has made some of my old favorites not just useful, but at times ridiculously powerful (sup Gyarados, finally getting the scary power he needs thanks to a decent set of physical-based water attacks). The new moves are tight, the strategies are more complex, and the online battling gives the game a huge staying power compared to the old ones. I'm having way more fun than ever before trying to assemble good teams, since with the WiFi battling you can't just raise a few bitches to a high level and then waltz through battles like you do in the ingame stuff.
Long rant here as well (rofl), but if you loved playing the old Pokemon games because they were FUCKING AWESOME and not because it was a fad, you should give D/P a shot. Have Jolmes give you a taste of competitive battling by hopping on shoddy and having him show you the ropes. You might just suddenly find yourself getting into it.

Re: To pokeman fans out there. All you 2 people.
Dude, I own Pearl and have played it thoroughly. And yes, I did get into EV training. And although it's probably a necessary "development" for competitive gameplay...it really widens the divide between casual battlers and hardcore battlers. For hardcore people (as in, those that are willing to kill 200+ Starlies for speed EVs) that's just fine. But it makes it sort of annoying when you're in the situation of "Hey, let's battle! Wait, you're way into EV training. I guess not then. " Yeah, I had a good time with Pearl. But if Platinum is too similar to D/P then I don't know what the appeal is gonna be for more casual players. I totally understand why Jomei is psyched, but man, I really don't want to start out with the Turtwig/Chimchar/Piplup choice again. Maybe if we got some new starters that would sweeten the deal. Does anyone yet know how much of a "remix" this will be? Same general direction (starting out killing Starlies, then Shinxes...etc)? It just doesn't feel right buying a new Pokemon game when there isn't a new "set" of Pokes, you know?

I felt shat upon when my awesome power of being a pokemastar was shattered with an additional 150 to fifteen thousand pokeymans started showing up.
And you can't take all of the pokemon from the original red/blue into the newer versions, can you?

Instead of clicking with the A button now you have to touch it with the touch screen. That's not revolutionary I prefer silver/gold. It was COOL. And fun. After that ruby was a drag and fire red and leaf green were just remakes. >.> I haven't tried the online in it though. Is it even online? (diamond

No, but they remade Red and Blue into Fire Red and Leaf Green, and you can transfer from those. Basically in the new games, you can, one way or another, get ANY Pokemon they've made so far. If you so choose, you can eventually make a team of all Pokemon from the original 151.
Anyway, any Pokemon D/P talk should probably go to its original thread. Let's discuss this shitty program metal posted. Can you battle other players in it? I'm still waiting for metal to post his team so I can ridicule it.

Re: To pokeman fans out there. All you 2 people.
Yeah, but it's still fucking retarded that you'd have to buy a remake just to get all of the pokeymans that you've already gotten. They should've made a way to transfer from the GB to the GBA to the DS.

Re: To pokeman fans out there. All you 2 people.
They upgraded so many things from the originals to what they have now that it would never work. Your Pokemon from the old games are weak and shitty anyway, so don't worry about it. edit: Just to list a few things... natures, separate special attack and defense stats, abilities. The old Pokemon have none of those things, and they would have to be ... randomly generated or something through the transfer. Seriously though, it's really really not hard to get any Pokemon you want. With the Global Trade System as well as the option of ASKING people on forums to trade you, there are so many ways to get what you want. You don't need to buy the remakes if you don't want because it really is THAT easy to find Pokemon.
