...are. I tripped and in effect poured a quarter-cup of tea directly into my computer. I took everything out and dried the motherboard and all the components as best I could, we'll see how this pans out. I have a lot of money in this thing so I won't be happy if it's fried. The hard drives are definitely safe at least. I've never even spilled a drink on my keyboard, so i suppose this is an interesting first time. |

It still worked, I just instantly shut it down. I took the cpu, heatsink, video card and ram in with my old motherboard to work today (psu and hard drives are definitely okay). Everything was up and running fine (and I got to turn on my computer with a paper clip by crossing two contacts on the mobo which never ceases to be the coolest goddamn thing ever), which means it's my motherboard that is either a) fried or b) needs more time to dry out. It could be worse. It is worse, actually, though. I also took a bottle of rubbing alcohol to work with me to clean the thermal paste from the cpu. I got clipped by a biker going the wrong way down a one-way street and a few minutes later noted my ass was wet... the cap came loose, drenched my ENTIRE bag... including a spiral of script notes I had been building for well over a year... and fucking up 1/3 of my old Powerbook's screen. If I let it sit for a few days it might dry out but I'm pretty sure I'll be stuck with a deformed-looking-screen forever. I'm having a great couple days, lol |

You have your computer in the ground? That's one of the reasons why i don't put it down there. And because I constantly have children/kids running around. Hell when ever i'm playing my ps3 or xbox they always push the off buttom. Seriously! Just because it's green doesn't give them a right to press it  If that was to happen to me. I'd turn it off and pray that nothing happened. And if something did happen to it. I'd try and make sure that the hard drive wasn't affected. |

Yeah, at the very least the hard drive is definitely fine. I have a strange case and the hard drives are down safe in the bottom-front. The video card is HUGE so it blocked most of the tea from getting any lower. I'm more bummed about my laptop, it's almost four years old, the PC's motherboard at the very least is a cheap fix (well relatively cheap compared to the CPU and my unholy sin against nature of a video card). My coworkers described today the best, I think... Me: (tells them about the situation) Boss: "Fuck." Coworker: "I think this is more of a 'killing rampage' situation than a 'fuck' situation." The most annoying thing is that this is the last couple weeks of the quarter for me and I have my own editing capstone, the sound for my roommate's animation capstone, and a script to finish up, all by... a week / week and a half from now, and my entire workstation is DOA for the time being. I'm bringing in my hard drives to work tomorrow to get my files off so I can keep working at the school labs, but it's a bitch having to commute half an hour to the computer school campus just to work on a project instead of being able to sit down at my desk at my apartment and do it there. |

Man, that's shitty. I remember once, I restarted the computer wrong and when I got it back on, my whole hard drive was gone. None of my music, pictures, videos, or documents were anywhere to be found. I nearly shit myself. I went up to tell my mum there might be something srsly wrong with my computer and when she closed the door to go back to bed, I instantly hit the ground and had to keep myself from crying. 40 GB of music. ;~; Luckily, I restarted it again and it worked fine. Gave me the biggest scare ever, though. |

It's been less than a month since I got my new motherboard so I was thankfully able to con Fry's into swapping it out (me: "It uh stopped working yeah that's it"), so I'm back in business. My laptop screen looks funky as shit but I guess I'll live with it, it does add character to an already busted-ass old Powerbook (probably the most beaten up Apple product you'll ever see). Cupcakes would still be appreciated.
