OSKDMGJFZSDHIODMNOIDGPOHNODJGSJHOAPWHSFHJ. Ominous capital letters in response to death of poorly manufactured console. Good thing Micro$oft extended the warranty. Anyone else have this problem? |

No surprise there, eh? Since each an every 360 is expected to break sooner or later anyway. Mine only took 6 months. Good lucking finding someone who hasn't experienced the problem. Also, do something creative with you Manbox 360 before sending it in. I taped a giant picture of Pikachu using Thunderbolt onto the top of my Manbox console. Then taped a Wii Points card on the coffin Microsoft sent me. |
...taped a Wii Points card on the coffin Microsoft sent me.
lals By coffin, do you mean that they sent you a box to put the 360 in, if so, how do I get them to do that? Or do you mean your refurbished 360? |

Aslong as it broke within the warranty, clearly it has. Call up one of Microsoft's loyal Arabian technical service employees. 1-800-4MYXBOX. After giving them all the necessary information "Favorite color, telephone number, etc". They should tell you that they will be more than HaPpY to fix it. Here's where that gamble of 400 dollars plays a role. They won't tell you, but it's possible you won't even get your original Manbox back. You might get a crappy, used refurbished console back, with black tire markings and blood splatters. Then again, they might send you a new console or just fix your original. Good luck, you'll need it. |

Wow, that gave me a whole new set of confidence pants for M$. Errr...So I just call them, they ask me about my sexual preference, etc, etc, they tell me they'll fix it, and then they send me my coffin? I hope they ask for my address too. |

I've hardly known anyone that managed to keep theirs alive longer than 8 months. Once my Xbox realized that I started to neglect it due to Pokémon Pearl, I believe it just killed itself out of frustration of not being used. Either that, or it got tired of me streaming Star Trek The Next Generation to it instead of playing games on it. It's too bad Microsoft wanted to get a year head start on Sony. So they used cheap Chinese hardward and didn't test the console the required amount of time before releasing it to the public. They've already admitted that 100% of their consoles are faulty and yet haven't fixed them. |

In two years, I'd like to see how this goes, especially since Halo 3 is supposedly the last of the Halo franchise. |

Wow, the PS3 actually had some decent apps showing at E3 this year. And I'm not talking about MGS:4. I think it's looking way too overhyped with the trailers and crap they've been showing. However, Heavenly Sword and Killzone 2 looked really nice. I think I'll need to see a bit more of Heavenly Sword though. I still want to play Lair like a motherfucker though. |

Anyway, the console battle is being won by the Wii right now, and by a pretty sizeable margin. I am thinking about copping a 360 due to a few games i'm really excited about, but I just might swipe a PS3. A good friend of mine's brother said he'd sell me his if i gave him 400, so i'm really leaning towards that. |

People are WAAAY too impatient. All you hear right now is, "PS3 doesn't have many good games out yet! XBOX 360 has Haaaaaaylow." ![]() I don't think that people realize that the consoles aren't just two year systems. These current models are supposed to last for ten years, supposedly. While right now XBOX 360 is outselling PS3 2:1 and Wii outsells 360 by the same fraction, they're being awfully short-sighted. According to wikipedia, the hi-def DVD capacity is 15 GB for a single layer and 30 GB for dual layers. The Blu-ray disk capacity is 25 GB/1 layer, 30 GB/2 layers--almost double the capacity. Right now, of course, there is little difference technologically between Blu-Ray and HDVD mainly because most of the crap we load onto the disks don't use that much space (considering most HDD's bundled with computers are only like 80 GB.) Comparatively, you can buy 4 blank Blu-Ray disks and have as much storing capacity as most computers, which is kind of mind-boggling at this point. Like the floppy disk, the 3-inch floppy, the laser disk, and the CD before, it was expensive at first, but after technology prices dropped, these became readily available. So, in my opinion, I say it's only a matter of time before Blu-Ray catches on to beat out HDVD, but for the next couple years, HDVD will lead a bit since it's less expensive. It's just how the industry works. Bigger is better, and since Blu-ray is bigger, it will eventually become better and beat HDVD. Even if HDVD managed to boost its storing capacity to match the Blu-Ray, the Blu-Ray will undoubtedly surpass it eventually, just because the blue light that's used is better for encoding information than the red light used by HDVD. Both could be used together for a while with standardized equipment capable of reading both formats, of course, but I think it's pretty obvious that using blue lasers is the way to go. But back to the PS3 v. 360 argument: Down the line, Sony will release its better game titles, like Ninja Gaiden, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy (is going multi-platform? Confirmations, anyone?), Dragon Warrior, Socom, etc. It's basically going to be a war between whose exclusives are better. (Unrelated: Killzone looks hella sweet right now.) I'm not trying to make a "PS3 > all." argument here, I just think people are counting it out way too soon, especially since the console wars have just begun. IMO though, the Wii will probably be the console leader to the mass marketing strategies, but the "hardcore" gamer group is still up for grabs. |

it's the same battle that has happened 10 times before. beta vs. vhs, etc. sony's lost most of these fights, though, so it's hard to say what will happen. |
