When you change the region code of your computer to play, say, region 2 DVD's...does it affect anything other than the DVD-ROM? |
does it affect anything other than the DVD-ROM?
The DVD-ROM (the disc) itself isn't affected. But your computer's DVD playing software is. When you change the region setting on your computer, the hardware remains unaffected. |

However, you may wish to check your computer's abilities: many drives will change regions ONLY A FEW TIMES. I know mine is limited to four (got around it with AnyDVD though lol). |

In a number of models, the region code and the number of changes remaining are stored in the drive's firmware. So in the most technical sense yes, it does alter your drive. There's ways around that. If your drive is recognized as a Liteon, I know for a fact that there's a tool to make it region free and/or reset the number of region changes and factory resets. |
