anyone else trying out google's browser? It's in beta, but it's pretty cool. some java or flash things need a little work, but other than that, i'm really digging it. I thought it crashed last nite(error report and all) but because of the way each tab is a different process, only one tab processed, and my other work was stilll fine.

lol. If they make it good I don't care how many things they make. Internet explorer is used by 75% of internet users. firefox has a little above 10%. Not sure why a company simply offering all these things could even be considered a monopoly, unless they were using government to shut out competition.

Actually, it's because monopolization is assuming noncompetitive control over a single product or service. Expanding one's product or service line is pretty much the opposite of monopoly.

I find the lack of options and preferences disturbing...

Edit: I also don't want it to save my browser history and most visited sites without me having to activate a "porn window." I have bookmarks for a reason.

Edit2: And they are using the Safari engine? You mean that shit-fest cluster-fuck browser that Apple Elitists can't even defend? I want to move back to FireFox already.

they're using the webkit thing that safari is based off of. Don't foget it's beta and they've already mentioned a lot of things they have to change and options they have to add.

Well, Firefox was derived from the most colossal shitfest of all (Netscape Navigator), so obviously Chrome has potential. However, until they start loading the browser with options and preferences (like getting rid of that God damned "new tab" page, and making the history OPTIONAL), I am sticking with Firefox.

When was the last time you used Safari? I would have agreed with you a few years ago (as it was sluggish and bloated as shit. And no tabbed browsing), but Apple really seems to have done well with it in its current state. Oh, and I'm talking about the Mac version. Haha, I heard the PC version is still way lame.

The main reason for a Mac user to use Safari is (in my opinion) how it works with OS 10.5 (Leopard). By that I mean: Syncing up to your "download stack" so new downloads don't clutter up your desk top. KEEPS YOUR DESKTOP LOOKING FLY.

Admittedly, I haven't been keeping tabs on Safari. However, like you said, the only reason to use Safari is to keep your Mac desktop looking fly. What impact will it have on Windows-users, who will be the primary users of Google Chrome? Like you said, the PC version is still way lame...and that's what they're going to be basing Windows Chrome on.

Anyway, if I am going to change browsers, my benchmark is Firefox. And it's still the benchmark.

Post Re: google chrome
Chrome is definitely fast. I have Firefox tweaked out to run as fast as possible, and in a lot of cases Chrome somehow runs circles around it. Two things though. One, it doesn't display some web pages I need to access for school and work, and two... no AdBlock Plus.

Get it so it displays my school pages correctly and get the ABP team to get a version for Chrome (and get Chrome to support extensions), then I'm sold. For now it's just kind of a neat toy to miss with.
