Re: What are you playing?

I've been playing Heavy Rain (over and over with different groups of friends). I've never seen a room full of people be so immersed in a single player game.
I didn't even realize that game was out yet. How is it?
Really well done. Indigo Prophecy was sort of crap (that's the game that David Cage made before Heavy Rain), but this one is near perfect. It's incredible how tense certain situations make you feel, and the way they create sympathy for all the characters is astounding. Totally worth the money.
I really want to get Mass Effect 2, but I thought the first one was a bit lackluster in pacing (and the whole "RPG" system was sort of stupid, I don't think I changed my equipment once throughout the entire game). I hear the second one is a godsend?
So I'm playing through the first one a second time while playing through the second one as well, and the second one is so much better that it's absurd. Having to scan planets for resources can be kind of annoying, but they did a total rehaul from the first game, and it plays a lot more like a third person shooter now with some rpg elements, and it's really good.

Re: What are you playing?
Have you played Borderlands at all, Mare? I don't know what kinds of games you are into, but it's an FPS with RPG elements that resemble Diablo/Diablo II a lot. I've personally had a lot of fun with it and I pretty much play everything if it's enjoyable.
Last thing I beat was Demon's Souls, which is rage inducing, but also addictive.

Killing that fucker with a low level mace-wielding priest was/is no easy task. Actually, that whole disgusting level is rage inducing. Though it's worth it in the end for the epic boss fight. After I killed Garl I actually felt reluctant towards killing Astrea, mainly because of her heartfelt dialogue which is complimented with awesome voice acting.

The only boss I seemed to have a problem with was the Flamelurker. That asshole pissed me off so much. Really, the levels and random enemies were more challenging than the bosses were for me.
Yeah, they did a pretty good job on the game overall. I was very impressed with the visuals and game play when I first picked it up.

Re: What are you playing?
Lots of people seem to have trouble with Flame Lurker. We beat him from afar with a barrage (hundreds) of arrows, run and roll when he comes at you. It was funny, my bro was trying to kill him like that but there were times where he couldn't outrun his chase because he had bulky armor on. I convinced him to take the armor off and roll frequently (I even had to show him what buttons do a roll because he hadn't used the roll up to that point.) Long story short, he beat him that very next try thanks to the extra mobility.
Not that I would want to trash my brother or anything, there's plenty of stuff he saw that I didn't as well.

Any tips in general to improve my play for online shooters? I'm only at 1.14 k/d on Uncharted 2 and I'd like to improve. I don't want to be like this one guy I play with who has about 26,000 total kills and only a 1.12 ratio through all of that. I don't want to get sucked into k/d obsession but I'd certainly like to be a credit to the team more often.
I think one thing I'm catching is that I find myself losing some encounters because I'm slower to move than they are or I get caught up trying to target them and remain stationary for too long. I'm running into a lot of situations where I am scoring hits but they are able to escape. I believe I need to learn what situations grant me the best chance at scoring and try to set up encounters to my benefit. I think my aim is getting better, but my sense of whether or not I should encounter someone needs improvement. Too many times I score (or don't) and then am scored upon from a side alley or behind.
It's great fun and all but I'm getting a little unhappy with the frequency of matches where I even out with k/d. I'd be happy if I could get it up to 1.4 or 1.5 without resorting to cheap boosters/tactics.

Re: What are you playing?
I don't mean to recite platitudes, but the way I attained proficiency at CS is I played a lot. Also, I'm only exceptionally good at Counter-Strike (and the other Valve shooters), so I can't help you with the specifics of other FPS's. For instance, I can't play Halo to save my life.
Anyway, I just played, and eventually, I just noticed that I was good at it. I guess I will typically do anywhere from 1:1 to 5:1 (and rarely 1:1 or 5:1 - I typically aim for 3:1 if I'm really trying on a public server), depending on who I'm playing, if I'm trying, whatever else I may be doing or focused on, or even if I'm having a good or bad day, or how reckless I am playing (I have little patience, so 9/10 I am just going to rush, kill everything I can, and then do something else while everyone else is playing). However, I never played competitively, because I used to use a family computer and couldn't meet the demands of any kind of set schedule, so I'm not quite great at the game - but I'm at a place where I can play comfortably without being frustrated, which is all you need to have fun. Those are my credentials, so if you ever need help with CS specifically, I can try to help you out (we should play together), and then you can see if anything you learn translates to your other games.
That is, if I still even know how to play.

Re: What are you playing?
Recently I've been playing a bit of MW2 on the 360, and it's been pretty fun aside from the occasional random lag spike fucking me over by either making it so the dude i'm shooting at isn't really there anymore or everything flips out as it tries to catch me up and I die suddenly.

You're an awesome player at UC2, do you think weapons matter alot? I find myself getting more kills with the M16 than the AK47

Re: What are you playing?
Yeah the M4 is all-around good for most situations. The AK-47 tends to perform well in a blindfire situation behind cover if someone isn't expecting it at close range. Don't bother with AK shots from really long range unless they are running in a straight line in your target. Try to mix up FAL and AK-47/M4 strategies so that your opponents don't know what to expect from you.
Try not to run through a stage all willie nille, that's what the shotgun diehards want you to do. Stick with a teammate and protect an area he doesn't see.

Re: What are you playing?
Picked up Final Fantasy XIII today. I've only played around 20 minutes of it so far, but I like it pretty good. My only beef so far is that it doesn't have the traditional FF battle system. I should've gone in knowing this, I suppose, but I didn't read into this game a whole lot. Or at all really.

Re: What are you playing?
If it has "Final Fantasy" it's considered Game of the GENERATION. Did you notice this one doesn't have the victory tune, or that the characters heal automatically after each fight?

Re: What are you playing?
Wait.. what the FUCK?! Now that I think about it.. I don't remember hearing the victory tune. And the auto heal was an improvement if you ask me. And apparently, if Lightning dies, you automatically get Game Over. lame

Don't forget no towns...
Bah, I'll still probably watch an LP of it just to see all the pretty cutscenes.

Re: What are you playing?
I didn't like the victory tune that much, anyway. :x
Don't have a PS3 but ooh, it's on 360 too... tempting!
