Re: what are you reading?
The book was okay, typical Murakami. Maybe a bit too typical. Yeah, the section in the middle was a bit flawed maybe. I enjoyed the book, but it was rather short. Too short actually to have a lasting impact.
It is maybe too typical. South of the Border is even worse about that though... it's almost like reading a Murakami parody.
Speaking of Murakami, Norwegian Wood is coming to the Portland International Film Festival, and I'm gonna try and catch it. Glad to get the opportunity to see it in the theater.
it's almost like reading a Murakami parody.
Hmm. . .that sounds fun in its own way.
Speaking of Murakami, Norwegian Wood is coming to the Portland International Film Festival, and I'm gonna try and catch it.
I've seen it some time ago. There was one character who had a lasting impact on me. It was not the protagonist, nor any female character. I vividly remember a scene in which their was a conversation with the protagonist, his friend and the girlfriend of his friend. . at a diner table with a white table-cloth in a private suite at a chique restaurant. yeah, you will get to know what I'm talking about when you see the film. Enjoy Don't forget to give a short review of it here. Just read the first part of 'Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy: don't panic'. Yeah, it definitely had some good parts. It even made me laugh aloud one time. To give you a impression of the book's humor: "For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.” - Douglas Adams. He is quickly becoming one of my most favorite people ever.
Have you read any Kierkegaard or Heidegger?
I came across another man, well parts of him, well parts of his thoughts. . . okay some words that are ascribed to him. His name is Peter Wessel Zapffe. He seems to be a wit, in the sense that he uses some humor in his writing. I haven't read anything of him yet, but scanning a bit on wikipedia and reading a bit from this article http://www.philosophynow.org/issues/45/ ... unt_ZapffeIt sounds quite interesting (ofcoure, because I agree with him mostly) Are you familiair with his writings Blank?
Island by Aldous Huxley
Reading it right now. Easy read, but entertaining and still timely.

http://www.shelfari.comIt's a site where you can show what books you've read, and I think there's more to it, but I'm new to it. I think it's quite useful. My shelf: http://www.shelfari.com/o1515057363/shelf (not up to date yet)

I've been reading Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Pretty sweet, it's like a game developer's take on Charlie and the chocolate factory.

I've been reading Battle Royale, something I've been meaning to get around to for a long time. It's very…interesting.
Although, with the advent of the Hunger Games, does this make me a hipster now?

The movie does a really poor job of explaining the back-story, which is quite interesting on its own.

Re: what are you reading?
I'm actually looking forward to re-reading the later books now that I'm older, I bet I'll appreciate them a lot differently.

It really has been that long. That reminds me, I should finish reading the Ender books. I think I read through Children of the Mind, but never read Ender's Shadow.

You can't be a hipster if you're married. Now you're just an adult.
