Re: What are you playing?
Hot off the press! MegaMan Unlimited. http://megaphilx.com/?page_id=26 I've got four RMs down, going in for more.
I don't know... I'm a huge Mega Man fan, but I'm pretty pessimistic about fan made games after playing "Mega Man x Street Fighter". That game was one of the biggest piles of crap I have ever played. I guess I'll give this a try, but my expectations are really low. Speaking of throwback games, is anyone excited about Ducktales Remastered? I wish they would do the same for some other NES titles, like Little Nemo. In other news -- I've just redeemed the $30 from the Fire Emblem/Shin Megami Tensei deal on my 3DS and now I'm contemplating what to spend it on. I think I'll save it for now, because there are some future eshop titles that I have my eye on.

Re: What are you playing?
Just straight up, it's better than you think. I haven't played the Street Fighter one, so if it isn't so special, then I haven't been negatively influenced by it. The boss fights in this are all very well designed, as I've beaten them all buster only, yet none of them felt like they weren't a threat, as my remaining health in nearly all of them was on the lower half of my bar. Taking Glue Man down buster only felt awesome. I'd recommend defeating Nail Man as soon as possible to get his Nail Shield, which is very helpful for certain sections of the levels. Rainbow Man's level could use work, but so far that's the only thing that's a bit sketchy. It's basically Quick Man's laser gauntlet the entire way down. (And wouldn't you know it, one of the letters is hidden in there too!) I recommend leaving it for last so you can buy maximum lives in the shop and save the game, so if you fail you can simply load your save. But really, once you know how to beat it, it's not really a problem anymore, the problem only lies in the fact that you simply don't have the time to react to devise the solution upon entry in some of the rooms. The creator is considering adjusting some of the rooms. I really hope that one tricky level wouldn't be enough to sway anyone from not playing it, because the game is mostly great. All said, I have not played the fortress yet, so there may yet be some unpleasant surprises, but the gameplay is in the sweet spot; substantial challenge and it feels like an official Megaman game. Barring Rainbow Man, the level's gimmicks are well thought out and creative, the music is great, the sub-bosses are great, the platforming is challenging but not too tough... Overall I feel it is very capable and certainly worthy of a Mega Man fan's time. Don't ask me for the weakness chain, I have no idea!

Re: What are you playing?
I downloaded and have been playing it a bit. You're right. It's actually a pleasant surprise. I actually remember seeing the webpage several years ago. I think the creator said that they have been working on this for five years or something, right? It shows, because this is a quality game. It's better in every single category than that Street Fighter crossover. The creative designs of the in-level enemies caught my attention in particular. "Mega Man X Street Fighter" had such boring enemies, but in this you get to fight platypus mini-bosses and leprechauns. Pretty awesome. The only mild annoyance that I have encountered so far is that the levels are at least 2x longer than the standard levels in a Mega Man game, and there is only one check point per level. It's a slight annoyance because the game is pretty tough and I have to end up starting at the beginning over and over again. But... at the same time, I dig the difficulty. I still need to play through the entire thing, but so far I'm enjoying it. Even as a grumpy Mega Man purist, I think this is a game that deserves a try. Some good work here.

Re: What are you playing?
Glad you are digging it! I see that annoyance from a lot of people that the levels are on the longer side, but I'm ok with it. Though they may be longer, I feel like they get the bang-for-buck in variety of obstacles and challenging sections. I was playing the Fortress today, and my only gripe was Wily 1 and 2 bosses having a cheap pit death factor to them. You can try having a Beat Call or two, but I experienced a problem with Beat not being able to pull me to safety on the third call, causing me to waste my whole stock. I wouldn't recommend stockpiling Beat. The levels themselves were pretty fun, challenging, but not so bad if you are paying attention to what weapons you should be using to help you get through sections. Wily 3 seemed easier in comparison. Wily 1's music is a bit noisy and forgettable, but then Wily 2's theme is excellent. I found the music overall to be pretty good, and after watching earlier footage of this game's development it's pretty awesome that they kept refining their product until they got some real winners. Nice little thing about the fortress is that you can save your progress and not have to worry about playing the entire fortress and winning in one run like a standard MM experience. I was unable to defeat the final boss today before I had to go to work, and I felt fine about it. I was peacefully resigned to replaying the Fortress upon failure, so it was a nice surprise to find out that I didn't have to play the entire Fortress again. I'll be ready to drop in again tomorrow and get it done. Oh, and have fun with what comes after you collect the letters. Also, yes! I saw that Ducktales game on Nintendo's sizzle reel at E3. Hopefully it's a better offering than Contra: Rebirth. That game was a bit too light on content. Yeah, it's Contra... if Contra levels were half as long with mediocre bosses.

Re: What are you playing?
Just got done with Dead Rising 1 I was surprised how different it is from what people were saying about it. "It's so wacky and crazy" "You can make Frank wear whatever you find, even a dress!"
I assumed it was going to be like State of Emergency meets house of the dead meets bishibashi or something.
But it wasn't like that. The game was so, serious and good. I enjoyed it. I did have to level up early in the game cuz it was BORING as sawao to not be able to move much or not carry much. Hated it. After I leveled up a few times . The game became much more entertaining and fun.
Purchased Dead Rising 2 Case Zero and really enjoyed that as wel. Made me respect the guy more and makes me want to continue the story.
Before playing Dead Rising 1, I assumed Chuck Green was just boring and dull. Now I find him to have an interesting thing going for him.
Haven't had a chance to start DR2 though.

Re: What are you playing?
Finished DR2 a long long time ago. It was a good game. I didn't like the bosses though. They weren't memorable and they didn't have much character in them.
Honestly, people hating on the game just because it wasn't "Frank West" are stupid.
Anyways, recently began replaying the Warcraft series. Got done with Warcraft 1 a few weeks ago and have been playing Warcraft 2's expansion. I beat the original War2 campaign.
holy crap War1 has axe throwers / archers to be one of the most broken class in the game. A group of them can kill practically anything. Combine them with catapults and you can't lose.
war2 makes them so terribly weak that they aren't worth creating.
The Ogres are the broken class of War2.
Got myself a 30 day trial of WoW and kind awanna play it. It's eh. It's okay.

Re: What are you playing?
Dark Souls 2 when I get a chance to sit in the living room. Sassy Jemima is my character with kind of an all rounder str/faith build, I have three of the four primal lord souls, heading for The Duke's Dear Freja next. Been feeling like it would be fun to break out the Atari 2600 but my oldest brother has it at his house. I hope it's still functioning, I'd like another run at Frostbite, Tutankam, California Games, Pitfall 2, Combat, Adventure... Lots of fun!

Re: What are you playing?
Kinda wish I were playing Dark Souls 2 right now. Demon's Soul was my jam back in 2009 (pulling the hipster card, check my trophies bitch), but I never beat Dark Souls. Maybe I just don't have the patience I used to. At any rate, I'd like to give Dark Souls 2 a swing. From Software will always have a place in my heart.
Reminds me: Atlus. I want to play a Persona game. Can someone help me? I've heard about them in passing on Podcasts and whatnot, but the description I have of the game I'm intereted in is so vague that I imagine it'd be hard to Google. Here's what I got: your character is in high school, I think, and by day at least some of the emphasis is making friends like a slice-of-life animu while by night you fight demons. Is that Persona 3 FES?
edit: idk why I capitalized podcat but w/e'z m8

I would recommend the original Playstation version of Persona 1 if you can't stand the j-pop of the psp rerelease, although the psp version allows you to do the Snow Queen's Quest (an alternate storyline.)
I have yet to play 2 and 3, despite owning both, but 4 was pretty good, if a little slow at times. It's a basic dungeon crawler setup. Creature fusion was a bit dummied down for my taste though.

Re: What are you playing?
Just beat Earthbound finally...for the first time.
Idk, I think I prefered Earthbound Zero more but Earthbound was still a good game. I liked the certain things you could do once the story was over.

Re: What are you playing?
Got back around to FF13. I just landed on Gran Pulse, that cinema sequence was some serious Discovery Channel business! I wasn't ready for the Golem eating the huge dinosaur. Reminded me of that scene in Lake Placid when the bear gets his shit wrecked. That scene was hard to watch, so sudden and thf bear's cries!

Re: What are you playing?
I dug out my old Gameboy (berry red color) not too long ago, and I have been just sickly hooked on Pokemon Pinball (all my other games have been consumed into the void). The game is mindless and highly addictive and I have been spending a lot of my free time (time I would have normally spent reading) playing it--very pathetic. You'll be happy to know that I beat all my old high scores, though Did anyone else have this game when they were younger?

Re: What are you playing?
I've been playing Warriors Orochi 3. Sure, it's a Dynasty Warriors game, but so far, I've got to say, it's the quintessential experience. The story surprisingly makes sense and feeds into the replayability factor, there's TONS of characters, and a lot of content that I wasn't even expecting.
It's a really fun, if grindy time.
