I use Sennheiser PX 100 headphones with my iPod. I researched before I bought them and they had only good reviews. You can find them online for less than $40. The only thing is that they are open, not sealed headphones. That means outside noise leaks in and your music can be heard by others around you. Open headphones are ideal in low noise environments.
They're also lightweight and foldable.
Yeah, the PX-100s are great. They're excellent headphones, but personally I always prefer earbuds for portable use.
I'm thinking about getting these...
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-280 ... lectronics
or
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-V700DJ-M ... lectronics
I am really pretty lost when it comes to headphones (still) and I mainly listen to music on my computer or on my mp3 player w/ Sony EX71s as stated earlier. Bass is very important to me. When I think of good sounding headphones I think about blasting Nine Miles with intense, but clear bass. I want to feel

I own a CD player, which came with "crappy" headphones, but the bass is a masterpiece. Nine Miles Sure does make riding the bus home from school down south WAY more bearable.

I would go for the Sony, techincally on paper they are also better (>sensitivity(higher senstivity) = louder music), and (and <impedence (smaller impedence) better bass) I have heard people say that they break apart, but so far in two years there is no wear or tear on the headphones
the Sennheiser also have attenuation (which means they try to decrease the sound from the outside, which results in lower sound in headphones)
the only bad thing i have to say about the sony is that cord can sometimes get annoying and you can't poot the cord into your pocket, but amazon is saying the coord is detachable, no clue on how that is, ill have to check it out, if the cord is detachable that is some awesome shit

There's a lot of opinions on both of those headphones at Head-Fi.
The Sennheisers generally get good reviews, but almost everyone there seems to agree that the Sony 700DJs are the absolute worst headphones you can get in that price range.
I haven't heard either, but I own the Sony V6 headphones, which are similar to the Senn HD280s, and I really like 'em.

Holy shit, I was just sitting in front of my PC, about to do some psychology homework when I saw a reddish stereo icon on my toolbar, which I hadn't noticed before.
I thought to myself, "Odd, my headphones are working fine, why would it be all red like that?" because the icon is normally white.
This turned out to be a completely different icon.
It had speaker configurations and stuff and I saw a "Headphone Virtualization" checkmark button. So I figured, "Why not give it a whirl?" So I did, and I totally thought the speakers were playing instead as well as my headphones. It's an interesting button and I wished I'd noticed it sooner.
Vista finally got something right.

Seriously, listening to Nine Miles with a really good set of headphones is really great.

I've always wanted a really nice pair of headphones; but with a phone cord. Instead of the regular cord.

Re: headphones
Got new headphones from Amazon today. Brand: AKG (that's Akustische und Kino-Geraete Gesellschaft, not Asian Kung-Fu Generation.) Model: K 414 P (also known as the K26P) "Foldable Mini Headphones" Paid: $60 Size comparison to iPod Mini: http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/st ... MG0763.jpgOn the head: http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/st ... MG0774.jpgA close up of my Ongaku to Hito (Music & People) sticker : http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/st ... MG0771.jpgA mini review: Alright, so I felt inspired to buy some decent headphones. These Sonys that everyone seems to have are great for the price...but still a a little on the cheap-end. Went to HeadRoom (headphone.com) to see some recommendations, saw these, looked good, read more reviews, made the purchase. Look and feel: When I took these out of the case, I was really surprised at how small they were. They really are "mini headphones," like if they were twice as big, they'd be regular full-sized cup-style headphones. A little funny, but they look very slick. And the bonus here is that they fold up really well. Just check that picture by the iPod. If you don't want to carry them around your neck and you have pants with good pockets, then the system works very well. Now the ear cups are made of that fake-leather stuff that's so popular now. Looks good, but...compared to the cheaper, puffy fabric covering the old Sonys...you're making a little bit of a comfort sacrifice here. The pleather doesn't squish nearly as nicely, so if you wear them for a long time, you might have to giive your ears a little rub, reposition, etc. Also, on the band, there are two little soft nubbies by the metal adjuster bit - if the headphones aren't on right one might start to dig in a little too much. A little annoying, just needs some slight adjustment...hell, just take it off and replace it with a small square of a softer cloth if it's that bothersome. No biggie. I haven't noticed it that much. It might be one of those things that wears in, too. Sound: Very solid, though I was a little disappointed that these phones sound quite bassy. Compared to other headphones, you're sacrificing crispness and brightness for heavy, thumping bass. This sounds like a fairly big turn off, but really, it's not that much of a negative point. If you listen to a lot of techno, heavy rock, or pretty much anything where you're like "oh man, this beat kicks ass," then these will deliver. For such a small package, these headphones have a definite 'thick' sound to them which is nice. Also: they fit flush on your ear, fairly firmly. This means that there IS a decent amount of isolation going on, which I love. People sitting next to you won't be hearing your beats. Pros: -Small. Light. Compact. Very mobile. -They look damn fine. -Thumping bass. -The cord is a good length (Most nice DJ-style headphones have absurdly long cords). -Semi-right angle plug. This is more of a personal pro, but apparently, right-angle plugs stress your headphone jack less (less torque), giving more life to your equipment. Cons: -For $60, I would have liked more balance in the mix. More highs, please. -These aren't the MOST comfortable headphones, but the things I mentioned are things that might "break in" in the future. These are still just a day old, so I should give them a little time to adjust to my head/ears and stuff. If they sound like something you might dig, check em out. I dig em well enough.

Re: headphones
Lolz, they look pretty funny on your head. Right now I'm rocking out some crappy Phillips SHS5200 behind-the-neck headphones. I wouldn't have chosen them, but one day my headphones were dying on me, so I had to go to the local target. (Radioshack's selection of headphones that go behind the neck SUCK.) At first when I listened to music out of these, my ears hurt like hell, because it makes the bass...more prominent. It sounded really bad to me at first because I was used to decent, regular headphones...and I don't really listen to a lot of heavier shit where I'm completely rocking out to the bass and/or beat. My headphones are pretty gimmicky, with a reflector thingy on the back (which I suppose is a plus because I like running at night... but ). It does have the pull-protection thing, where there's an extra string near the earpiece so the cord doesn't break. Speaking of which, this headphone's cords are the WEIRDEST I've ever felt. Seriously, it's like a strand of twisted fabric. I'm kind've afraid it's going to break on me. Then again, it was only like nineteen dollars, so meh. I'd like to get a kickass pair of headphones, but most kickass ones don't have the same functionality I get with behind-the-neck ones... Plus, they're expensive. Oh well.

Err, what functionality do you mean? The only difference with behind-the-neck headphones that I can see is that SOMETIMES they look cooler than regular style headphones.
The major downside with behind-the-neck is that you can't rest your head on something. This makes them a poor choice for...being on an airplane. in a car. on a train. on a bed. laying on the couch. on a bus. sitting under a tree. If setting your head back on something dislodges the headphones from where they should be, then they're no-go in my book. What's the appeal to you, Blank?

Re: headphones
If you're walking/jogging/biking or something, they stay on great and are really really comfortable. But yeah, the whole unable to relax against things sucks.

Running four miles without having to adjust my damned headphones every two strides.
And I don't really care about resting against things with my headphones. If I really want to do that, I'll just do it and turn the volume up a little more.
