Hi guys. I'm Kurisu, and I'm prejudiced against a substance that, when used in moderation, can give you all kinds of wonderful, undeserved feelings of accomplishment. I also dodge challenges to Pokemon battles.

Anywho, JOMESLICE. D: WANNA TEACH ME HOW TO GODLY AT THE POKEMANZ? I have recently acquired the national dex and have obtained 80 or 90 something Pokemanz. I've gotten to the thing after the Elite Four, but I have yet to go to that volcano.

1. Learn about EV (effort value) training. www.serebii.net has info. This and step two are the biggest differences between casual and competitive players.
2. Learn about natures. Same as above. Getting a beneficial nature for your Pokemon is essential. If your Pokemon is going to be a physical attacker that doesn't mix in any special attacks, go for Adamant (raises attack, lowers special) or Jolly (raises speed, lowers special) nature, depending on the Pokemon's base stats. Always go for a nature that boosts a stat that your Pokemon wants to be high, and preferably lowers one that you don't use or don't need as much.
3. Consider paying attention to IVs (initial values). These are in-born values (on a scale of 0-31) in each stat of a Pokemon. They influence your stat growth. It's really hard to get great ones, but often times just hatching six Pokemon of the nature you want and picking the best one can make a difference.
4. Have a balanced team (in terms of types of attack, types of Pokemon, and defenses) and useful movesets (see smogon.com or serebii.net for good ideas).
5. Try battling on Shoddy Battle (shoddybattle.com). It's a simulator of Diamond and Pearl battles where you can make a team in about 10 minutes and battle it out with others over the net. The competition level is very high, and you'll get dominated a lot, but you will learn about what kind of shit goes down in competitive battling (think Roar and Whirlwind suck? Wait until something behind a Substitute starts getting stat ups. Fucking Ninjask...).
6. Training, prayers, vitamins, believing in yourself (and your Pokemon).

WHEW.

Jesus Christ. This game has levels of depth I have yet to fully comprehend.
