heh. I liked it. Lord of the rings, on the other hand, is not my favourite. I'm much more interested in the whole mythology he made than the fantasy that was the most exciting, really. Although it was good.
yea same here. i love the background info witht the valar and all. thats the real interesting stuff.
the silmarillion sure got boring really quick...it is just like reading a history book, where a large portion of the people have quite similar names. Got kinda annoying. But i read it all. Right now i'm reading Asimov's Foundation, George RR Martin's A Clash of Kings, and re-reading both the Wheel of Time and Harry Potter seriesI read multiple series at once, depending on what book i'm in the mood for.
Yeah, I love mythology, and I thought I'd like that book, but it's exactly like reading a history book. It just didn't hold my attention. And the names were impossible for me to keep track of . . .
By the way, I'm currently reading nothing . . . not really any time to, sadly.

I like the whole mythology of the world too, just not as Tolkien tells it. There are a lot of other books by other people that present it in a much more interesting and entertaining manner. I have an atlas of Middle-Earth that's really superb.

Actually, I was talking about mythology in general—I find it incredibly interesting, usually—but the mythology of Middle-Earth, at least in the Silmarillion, the way it was written, wasn't that interesting at all once I got past the idea of reading about it.

Im on the third volume of the three kingdoms. Dynasty Warriors kicks ass. Chinese classics are like water margin, journey to the west, and the scholars are awesome. Battle Royale is a good book. A similar one is stephen king's The Long Walk.

The Art of War is where it's at.
Anyway, I was re-reading the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, until I stopped to repursue my Japanese studies.
Watashi no Nihongo wa heta desu.
If you like fantasy books, I suggest the Recluce saga by L.E. Modessit. I swear I learned more about Economy from that book than I did from my economy class. Just don't read the first book... Well, you could, but the first person is rather awkward to get used to. It was for me at least.

I just finished reading the thursday next series and the fourth bear. jasper fforde is brilliant. I also read rudyard kipling's just so stories and robota by orson scott card and someone else. currently reading a collection of Card stories that are brilliant. I bought the first book of wheel oftime. maybe i should read it.
also i just finished 3001:final odyssey. I'm much less happy with this series in general, as say, his rama series.

Reading? What is that? Sounds like something relevant to Monopoly.

i'm reading the moviegoer for the third time. it's by walker percy. pretty damn interesting if you ask me.
it's one of those older but not too old books that's just plain good - about what brings about happiness and crap... mostly about depression actually...

I'm re-reading Wuthering Heights...it's good, but these "classics" get really annoying. The first time I read it I got the gist of it, but I have to read it again to really catch everything

Yeah, back in the day you had to be smart in order to read. Now you just need to be a 12 year old girl.
