Re: What are you playing?
There were games in which one had to use particular strategies on particular bosses. Some say "boring, long as fuck fight," I say "epic battle for which the FF series was known." If you don't overlevel/you played the ones where they level the bosses according to your level, shit was awesome.

Re: What are you playing?
I am extremely excited about the upcoming release of Dragon Quest VI for DS, the last game in the series to be released outside of Japan, on February 14. I've played the (crappy) super famicom fan translation, but the new remake ought to be better in every way. The DS releases of IV, V, and IX were pretty much the reason I bought the system in the first place.

Re: What are you playing?
Probably because it achieved its goal: to make the games less games and more movies...if movies were beautiful landscapes with a single, clearly defined path set out for the characters, rather than an open world in which characters more or less have the supposed ability to do as they please and go where they want. The fact that they not only restricted you to a purely railroaded plot where the "world" you were in was nothing but straight, narrow paths with pretty backgrounds, but they also destroyed the historically awesome combat system by only letting you directly command one character made this game into a steaming pile of shit that no true Final Fantasy fan should be able to respect. If this is the way they're taking the series, I'm totally done with that shit. I can replay FFIV, VI, VII, and Tactics for the rest of my life when I feel like playing a Final Fantasy game for all I care.
YES. I tried playing for about four hours before becoming utterly infuriated by the lack of real control, all I did was jam on the auto-battle command. I will admit it's interesting that you only directly control your own actions and rely on the others to handle themselves, it's like real combat. But still, terrible game.
The battles were never strategic. They were always ever a simple matter of sufficiency of level and random chance. I mean, obviously one could make better or worse decisions in a battle, but it wasn't exactly rocket science. Also, often whether you made the right decision or not depended upon the future actions of the enemy, which is guided by random chance.
Well, there was strategy, just not very complex strategy. Is enemy weak to X? Use X ability. Is health low? Heal.

Re: What are you playing?
Well it took me a while to finish SO2 (Star Ocean Second Story) I really loved the sound track to this game and the game just got better and better towards the end of the first disc. The Whole second disc is like after the climax of the game mostly do sidequest get awesome gears, weapons, ect. but that ending sooo good. I Might pick up Xenogears another classic RPG i haven't played, but i dont wanna i hate the whole game play to it, how i have to constantly move the camera and the camera is never at a good angle.... urgh.... I might just pick up Romancing Saga 3 For the SNES. Yes another classic good rpg game. Ill let you know what i finally pick hehe ...

Re: What are you playing?
I miss Final Fantasy X so much... I'm gonna have to find time to sit down and replay it soon. One of my favorite games... I love the soundtrack.

Re: What are you playing?
I always thought the FFX soundtrack was pretty lackluster. FFVII's soundtrack is fucking bomb, though. I know it's THE Final Fantasy soundtrack that everyone knows, loves, and refers to, but it's soooo good. The Main Theme tune is orgasmic.

Re: What are you playing?
The FFVII soundtrack is simply brilliant - it's just bombshell after bombshell. Nothing really compares to it.
All it's missing is an epic song as in FFIX or FFX. "Melodies of Life" and "Suteki da ne" are just so godly brilliant.
However, FFIX is still the best game.

Re: What are you playing?
Lots of people find the X soundtrack lackluster.
I do not. Quite the opposite, actually. VII is indeed my favorite FF for music. But I love most of the music in FFX. I was impressed by the composition staff. The melodies and arrangements move me.

Re: What are you playing?
I lent FF7 to a friend (teenage) at work. He really likes RPGs but he hasn't played some of the staples yet. :O He's at Cosmo Canyon for the first time. When he beats it, Chrono Trigger is next. Woohoo remote mines in Goldeneye! Wish I had these in Uncharted. LMAO shotguns only playlist this weekend was hilarious.

Re: What are you playing?
Gave up at 45, I just shouldn't be spending that much time on this. It's fun, though.
