 Re: What are you playing?
SO2 is a great game. The battle system is fantastically well done as well.

 Re: What are you playing?
Haha, XIII appeals to some people more than XII did.
I loved XII. Didn't finish XIII. But at the point I stopped, it seemed a bit strange. And I hated all of the characters just about.

 Re: What are you playing?
Yea Final Fantasy XIII was pretty poopy once you got over the whole eyegasm thing. Wonder why Famitsu gave it a 39/40.

 Re: What are you playing?
Probably because it achieved its goal: to make the games less games and more movies...if movies were beautiful landscapes with a single, clearly defined path set out for the characters, rather than an open world in which characters more or less have the supposed ability to do as they please and go where they want. The fact that they not only restricted you to a purely railroaded plot where the "world" you were in was nothing but straight, narrow paths with pretty backgrounds, but they also destroyed the historically awesome combat system by only letting you directly command one character made this game into a steaming pile of shit that no true Final Fantasy fan should be able to respect. If this is the way they're taking the series, I'm totally done with that shit. I can replay FFIV, VI, VII, and Tactics for the rest of my life when I feel like playing a Final Fantasy game for all I care.

 Re: What are you playing?
^Eh, that's a tad bit extremist for my taste. Especially since XII was perhaps more free roam than ANY other FF game. They were trying to contrast with XII, I thought.
Also, after you get pass the halfway point in XIII, it's no longer linear. Once you get to Pulse you can roam freely.

 Re: What are you playing?
That's a half of a game that's not worth playing, unless the second half is the best Final Fantasy ever, seriously. Still doesn't save the shitty combat.

[quote="Marekenshin"]That's a half of a game that's not worth playing, unless the second half is the best Final Fantasy ever, seriously. I didn't love the battle system, but a lot of the fights got very intense and I was able to find some enjoyment out of them. Though I do have a long list of grievances with the battle system myself. As for how well the second half plays, I'm not sure... since around the time I arrived there is when my PS3 decided to YLoD on me.

 Re: What are you playing?
The "battle system" is a glorified quick-time event game. Gone is the joy of strategic battles that I enjoyed.

 Re: What are you playing?
The battles were never strategic. They were always ever a simple matter of sufficiency of level and random chance. I mean, obviously one could make better or worse decisions in a battle, but it wasn't exactly rocket science. Also, often whether you made the right decision or not depended upon the future actions of the enemy, which is guided by random chance.
