how about you use linux for a year then buy a mac so that you're a mac user who actually knows how his computer works :DDD

if they weren't so goddamn expensive, i might be a mac fag. for the time being i'll just be a linux fag.
You'll have some idea what's going on under the hood in OSX, but remember that it's based on Unix and not Linux.

And I've been using Linux for a couple months now. I like it; but it does have its shortcomings.

i just updated to edgy eft (ubuntu lol) and it kind of tore my computer apart... i've heard a LOT of horror stories about using online upgrades in any operating system, but linux takes the cake for fucking you in the ass...

so i'm going to have to download a cd image and install from scratch in the next few days :(

osx really just is a linux distro with a VERY WELL WRITTEN GUI and interface detection/drivers that are better than the average linux distro.

there are absolutely no visual fragments... man, looking at osx makes me cream. so does kde though, but only when my laptop isn't lagging (and, of course, i get some fragments).

windoesn't lol

Isn't edgy not finished just yet, though? I'm still using Dapper, and I haven't had any real problems with the automatic updates thus far. And yeah, I'm rather partial to KDE myself - the next version of it is shaping up to be lurvely. There's a project out to rewrite X though which I think could really make Linux rock for reals - since we're basically using the same patched code that's been around since the 1980's.

And yes, OSX is based in UNIX, a flavor of BSD called Darwin. And yes, it is a very nicely-written GUI.

What project for rewriting X ? Is there something other than the modular X.org
