I got my mac for $300, zen, and no, I don't have anywhere near as much spyware as you.

Also, my computer makes coffee and does jumping jacks.

When you compare hardware only, Macs seem a lot more expensive. But what those build-it-yourself PCs leave out is the software. When you take into consideration all the great software that's bundled with a new Mac, it's actually a great deal. Yeah, yeah, I know. "but overAmped, warez is free on teh intarweb!!!111!" Shut up.

On a Linux related note, I'd really like to set up my PowerBook to dual boot (er.. actually triple boot I guess) with Yellow Dog, but I'm too lazy to reformat and partition my HDD.

Yesturday on "Stories of Jedi's Stupidity", Jedi changed the name of his home folder, which messed up all his files by placing them in different locations as well as losing some, prompting him to run to the Apple Store to get it fixed. And walks out with fixed iBook and Airport Express.

So one day a Windows-using friend of mine says, "Hey, what happens if you drag the System Folder to the Trash?" And I say, "Watch, it won't let me do it. Mac OS X is just that cool." So I then drag it into the Trash, and a kernal panic ensues. I then had to completely reinstall Mac OS X.

Long story short, you can put the System Folder in the Trash, but don't.

macs dont have spyware, macs dont have viruses. period.

the only virus ive yet heard of for osx, you have to download it and execute it yourself for it to work. and its incapable of spreading itself. REAL THREATENING. "oh god, someone who hates me sent me a program, i better download it and run it, yeah!"

I haven't had a lot of virus problems to speak of with my computer, despite frequent visits to the seedier parts of the internet. Or spyware, really. I use free software to deal with all them shits.

Speaking of that, a lot of the equivalent "great software" that comes with a Mac has a free counterpart that will run under Windows. I hate M$ Office, for example. OpenOffice rocks my socks.

I still miss the Mac a lot, though. I'll be happy once the x86 version of OSX is a bit more developed.
AMD Athlon XP 1300 CPU, although Windows has started to think it's only 998 Mhz. I hate Windows.
I had the same problem with my AMD Athlon 1600+ showing a slower clock speed on Windows. You probably just have to update your BIOS.

I'll take a look. My motherboard is fairly new, so that could be the problem.

AMD's numbering system is misleading, though its not as bad as it may sound:

AMD stopped listing their CPUs in terms of clock speeds, since an AMD chip of the same clockspeed as an intel chip will perform much better. yes, your chip is running at 998Mhz, but its performing as well as an intel processor at 1300. no more worrying, k?

No, you don't understand. I mean, I know all that stuff about the misleading numbering system and whatnot.

But up until a week or two ago, Windows reported my CPU speed at 1.3ghz. It just spontaneously changed down to 998mhz.

998 is a wierd speed for a CPU to run at, anyway

yup... go openoffice!

and i recently found out that only 2% of the computers running on the earth use a macintosh operating system... which makes sense that there would be no spyware or viruses written for macs. anything that a mac user catches would probably be something program specific, or something that just happens to work that was originally written for windows (i wonder if the latter if even possible though... probably not O_o)
