Post Sony Vita: Next Generation Portable
This shit looks ridiculous. It's like a PS3 in your pocket.

...If you've got deep pockets, both literally and figuratively.

This one has terrible audio quality, but damn!

Not to be a downer, but it totally kills me that the Vita apparently has terrible battery life. What good is the term "portable" if the thing isn't actually portable? :/
Also, I think we all get the picture with Katamari. I think it could be retired safely.

I figured it would have poor battery life; it is a ps3 in your pocket, after all.

But hopefully in time, newer models of the Vita will have increased battery life and all of the other great things that go into new models. Compare the 1st gen psps to the newer ones.

Would you elaborate on your Katamari statement? I was speaking more out of excitement for the gameplay. Katamari on the Vita looks like it could be hella fun while avoiding some of the clunkiness of the original.

Well, it's just that there have been SO many iterations of Katamari. You play one, and that's great. Then you play another, and it's good, but you think "Hmmm...I think I've done this before." Playing any more Katamari just doesn't offer much that is new in my opinion. You roll around and pick up shit. And yeah, I know the humor and charm are great, I dig that. But I don't think they should be asking full retail price on such a tired formula. I mean really, Katamari Vita is same ol' same ol' with a few new gameplay tricks. And touchscreen Katamari just doesn't appeal to me at all....

shrug. /rant

That's fair. I'm looking pretty forward to the back touchpad most of all. One thing I absolutely hate is fingerprints/smudge marks on my screens.

...Yet I own an iPod touch. -_- (I spend most of my time wiping away my fingerprints with the side of my thumb to make it streak-free.)

With the Vita now launched in Japan, we can expect to see more youtube videos showcasing its capabilities.

Here's an interesting clip showing Little Deviants:

What interests me the most in that video is the augmented reality shown in the end of the video. Shit looks hella addictive.

That can be said of most games that are based on a series that don't go out of the way to completely reinvent themselves. Look at the Call of Duty series. They still charge $60 for each new one, even though they come out only about a year apart. I'd rather have a new Katamari every few years than no new ones at all. Plus, their last one before this, the PS3 one, wasn't even full price. It was only $40, I think.

Apparently the PSV has longer battery life than the 3DS. The 3DS died in 2 hours 35 minutes, the PSV in 3 hours 47 minutes.

All settings at max.

But I don't play Call of Duty. I'm just saying I have less respect for developers when they just rehash shit.

At least, say, the Modern Warfare series has a cognizable and engaging storyline - like a first-person movie. I mean, you could easily spend $60 at the theater watching, say, the Lord of the Rings series, so I would figure that each game is comparable to that. And when you're done you can dick around with the multiplayer. By no means the pinnacle of gaming, and once you've played one you've played them all. But enjoyable nonetheless.

Katamari, on the other hand? Why would you buy more than one?

This is what I wanted to say, sorry I gave such a pointless response. CoD, while "selling you the same shit every year" ala Madden, arguably evolves in small ways - and as sheer mentioned, the story. Katamari, from what I've seen, doesn't really evolve. You just get more Katamari. Same deal with a series like Ridge Racer. It's just sort of a token installment. Or even Mario Kart. You know, where the reviewers are all "Well. What can I say? It's more Mario Kart. If you like Mario Kart, you'll probably like more Mario Kart."

Since you haven't commented specifically on this, did you watch any videos of the new katamari damacy? The ball to pick up things can be stretched/narrowed (controlled by the back touch pad) and it looks like there will be more new features in the game.

While you may be right in saying Katamari is a tired formula, at least this iteration is bringing something new to the table. It might not have the best story, but it looks like it's going to be really fun.
