So I recently came across a channel on youtube called Every Frame a Portrait, and quite frankly, it's amazing. This guy goes into incredible detail analyzing not only the story, but the film direction in movies. I got trapped there, watching it for three hours. He's also got a good range of topics he covers, even delving into anime and Akira Kurosawa. I highly, highly recommend it if you're into film theory or directing even the tiniest bit. Even if you're not, it still is a very fascinating and enlightening watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5V-k-p4wzxg Does anybody else enjoy film analysis? What got you into it? Do you analyze films by yourself, with friends/family? Do you use resources to analyze films or do you just wing it? |

Wwwwwwwwwinging it for the win. I took two or three classes on film in college, and they helped open my eyes to various things to look for about the construction of a film, from the timing/pacing/spacing of shots to the more obvious elements like music usage and such. As a result, I will not annoyingly pause any show/movie I'm watching with my wife to point out details that catch my attention for whatever reason. This can sometimes lead to a five-minute+ tangent, but so far she's enjoyed it as adding to the experience more often than not, I think. lol |
