Pacific Rim
Some of it was a little cheesy. I didn't really care about half the characters.
BUT WHO CARES

Re: Pacific Rim
Yeah, it was cheesy, very stupid at times, and the characters were flatter than day-old opened soda... but it was fun.

Re: Pacific Rim
Went and saw this earlier today. It was pretty cool.
Has anyone here seen Gunbuster? It's a Gainax mecha OVA from the late 80's. One of my favorite shows ever. Pacific Rim shared more than a few plot points with Gunbuster, and I have to wonder if Del Toro has seen it. I read somewhere that he's an anime fan, so I guess it's possible. At various points throughout the film, I turned to my wife and said "Oh shit, we're watching a live-action Gunbuster."
If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out. It's only 6 episodes, but if you liked this film at all, then Gunbuster will blow you away.
~SPOILER~ ~SPOILER~
Am I the only one who guessed Idris Elba had radiation poisoning as soon as his nose started bleeding? It's such a common trope in mecha anime, lol

Re: Pacific Rim
A comparison to Gunbuster? Damn, I really need to find time to see this before it leaves theaters
Wish I had money to see this
Any of the theaters near you have matinee pricing? Around here it's like 5 bucks if you go in the morning or early afternoon. If you're interested in seeing it though, definitely see it on the big screen; I don't imagine it'd be the same on DVD.

I actually have the first VHS of it still wrapped (along with an opened vol. 1 and 2, but sealed 3-6 of the Japanese version of FLCL, but now I'm just bragging.)
Also, I loved Pacific Rim, but I really wish Del Toro didn't decide to cut out like half the fucking plot. It's a fun movie, but it could've been a good film if they actually kept the story in there. At least DT was the one who wanted to take it out and it wasn't a executive meddling.
