Anyone into the Hunger Games?

I was skeptical due to the similarities to Battle Royale. And there are strong similarities, but the movie was pretty good regardless. It's definitely got a different flavor though, being focused on one character and showing more personal themes. Some characterizations were a little weak, it seemed like Cinna was supposed to have a significant mentoring relationship with Katniss but they hardly showed it. They did try to cram in a lot into less than three hours.

I have heard from multiple people that the books are good. At some point I'll get around to reading them. >.>

I plan to finish reading the Chronicles of Narnia, then I'll read the Hunger Games before I watch the movie.

My sister saw it and liked it. I intend to show her Battle Royale so I get her opinion on that as well.

Battle Royale, the book, had so much more depth than the movie (though the movie was fun).

Yes, although the movie stayed remarkably true to the original. Of course some things had to be adapted to work as a movie (no way to characterize all 42 students well,) but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

I've never heard of the books until the movie came out.

I use to think it was something to do with Eating competitions.


I was disappointed when I found out what it really was about.
