Sin F**kin' City! I just saw it Tuesday; and I'm still gaga over it! Also, when it comes out, Kung Fu Hustle. It should be the funniest thing to come from China since, well, anything. |

Lately I’ve been taken with Andrei Tartovsky, and contemporary Russian film in general. -My name is Ivan, Andrei Rublev, Solaris, The Mirror. I just saw the Commitments again. That’s a fun movie. |

I heard Sin City was really good all though I haven't seen it myself yet. I am also looking forward to Kung Fu Hustle. |

Yes Kung Fu Hustle! Anyway, War of the Worlds looks promising even though they might mess up the image of the book like they did with LOTR.... but I won't get into that. Speaking of movies played off of books, I really can't wait for The Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy. Let's see a movie recomendation...I have no clue. I've drawn a blank... maybe Closer because I want to see it too, not knowing if it's good or not. |

Go watch every Woody Allen movie you can get your hands on, and watch them chronologically. He is a genius director, prime example: the blocking in Crimes and Misdemeanors when Judah goes to Dolores apartment to try and end their affair-notice how the entire scene happens in ONE shot. |
the blocking in Crimes and Misdemeanors when Judah goes to Dolores apartment to try and end their affair-notice how the entire scene happens in ONE shot.
See High and Low. The first act contains a lot of deliberate blocking, and most of the action takes place in a series of long, purposeful shots. Kurosawa was trying to emulate a stage performance. I read something that said Woody Allen was very inspired by live theatre. His blocking style would certainly support this. I dislike excessive jump-cuts and sloppy blocking, so I'll have to watch some of his films again. I think I was to young to pick up on this when I originally saw most of them. |
