 Hard-boiled detectives / film noir
I'm a big fan of these genres of film and literature. Recently I saw The Maltese Falcon and Chinatown, both of which were great, and I'm wondering if anyone has other suggestions.
Other films I've seen and recommend: Bladerunner Dark City Ghost in the Shell Se7en Basic Instinct Reservoir Dogs Pulp Fiction Memento
Already on my to-see list: The Big Sleep Brick (2005) Sin City Blood Simple Yojimbo

Re: Hard-boiled detectives / film noir
Brick is fantastic, one of my favorite movies. And all my friends make such a big deal out of me not getting around to seeing sin city yet. I'll have to check some of these out sometime. Another two movies I recommend are Oldboy(one of korean director Park Chan-wook's most well known films) and Taxi Driver(Martin Scorsese film staring DeNiro).

The Big Lebowski and Snatch, but I'm not sure if Snatch qualifies as a film noir or detective genre.

Cowboy Bebop hits the noir style more than a few times throughout the series. It's definately one of the best animations ever.

Oh yeah, I had Taxi Driver in mind but I forgot to put it on the list of to-see stuff.

Re: Hard-boiled detectives / film noir
Ok, so I've knocked a couple off the list this weekend. Oldboy was good, and Taxi Driver was great.
