Well, I saw this two nights ago and I was pretty impressed. I went into it expecting a bad, overblown comedy and instead was surprised by the quality of some of the performances, the depth of the characters and the fact that it managed to capture a Mel Brooks-style snowballing-into-ridiculousness arc pretty damn well. Robert Downey, Jr., Tom Cruise and Jay Baruchel would have made the movie for me alone, but the rest of the cast was pretty stellar too. Except for Jack Black who was just a stupid, fat whining prick for almost the whole movie. He didn't have any funny bits until twenty minutes from the end. But yeah I think RDJ should get an oscar nomination for this and probably a golden globe for best comedy performance. |

I have to agree with pretty much everything you said there, I saw this Monday night and other than the first ten or so minutes thought it was absolutely hilarious. |

I didn't even recognize Tom Cruise initially. It was crazy. Downey was just... wow. |

Booty Sweat was a little much but the prayer beads with Topher Grace was HILARIOUS. |

I saw this in New York on the second day it came out in the multiple story AMC theater by Broadway. It was awesome. I loved Jack Black in it, honestly. Although he wasn't super funny or anything until the end when he went on about the heroin thing. I agree however about Robert Downey Jr. being pretty much the best in the movie. |

I think my favorite part from that entire movie was when Downey was talking about all the food he could prepare. Some collard greens, some crawwwfish. Hah! ::grunt:: So awesome. |
I'M A DUDE PLAYING A DUDE DISGUISED AS A DUDE
I mean think about it, at one point Downey is a white American playing white Australian playing a black man dressed as a Chinaman SPEAKING PROPER CHINESE. I THINK. That is oscar-caliber. Also my favorite line? Kirk Lazarus: Alpa and I are already wearin' Earth Mamma's natural night camo. Alpa Chino: Cool it, Benson! and Alpa Chino: I had to represent. Cause they had one good role for a black man, and they gave it to Crocodile Dundee! Kirk Lazarus: Pump your breaks, kid, that man's a national treasure. Basically the interplay between those guys made Alpa Chino all worthwhile and Kirk Lazarus THAT much better. |

yeeeeeeah, gonna go the opposite way and say that this movie sucked. There were some funny parts - though almost entirely from the scenes with Tom Cruise or Robert Downey Jr. Otherwise, the last half hour especially was just overblown and boring. |
