Who's pumped? Some people are turned off by the video-gamey look, but I'm excited if only because I've never seen anything like this before. Most movies lately with CG wind up looking a bit like a video game, but in this one, that's kind of the point... brings a smile to my face just thinking about it. Seeing this shit IMAX next friday. |

I don't care if it is Speed Racer, if I see it, I'll probably end up just making fun of it. ![]() |

It's from one of the people that brought you "The Matrix", though! ![]() |

the screenplay was written by the Wachowski brothers. They're also directing it, I believe. And considering how the Matrix trilogy turned out, I would definitely say the fact that they're involved doesn't make it a sure thing. But i would think this is a much simpler story/plot to work with, so who knows. |

I personally loved it, it was exactly what I wanted. Tons of the most crazy-awesome shit I've ever seen on the big screen. The featherweight story was well-done and heartfelt, though they should have canned all the crap with the kid and the monkey. It only made 5 million on Friday, though, so it'll tank hard. It's definitely the kind of movie where you have to know what you're getting into. It is in no way shape or form your average racing movie, action movie, family movie, anything. It's literally what you would think Speed Racer would look like if it were live-action. It's hard to explain. |

Wow I want to see this. ![]() I read about the visuals, and it's two hours and six minutes. I am expecting a rolling rainbow of explosions, camera effects and all manner of CGI craziness. But if it sucks, I'll say so. You definitely can't get away with an effects movie if the images make you go "ewww" the whole time. It doesn't matter who is directing it. |

I went into this film with mixed feelings, but was blown away by it. Visuals are greats (though there are some parts that looked like they needed some spiffin' up), the cast was strong, and -- most importantly -- it felt like watching the original TV show. The only reason why I think critics panned this was because they had never seen a single episode of the original series. As cartoon-based movies go, this was the best I've ever seen (even better than the live-action "Cromartie High"). |

lol dvd. I saw the new Indiana Jones movie as well. Speed Racer was way more fun. ![]() Ehh, Crystal Skull was just alright. It was really difficult to suspend disbelief for the entire jungle driving sequence, especially the monkey swinging part and how they got down to the river. ![]() ![]()
though they should have canned all the crap with the kid and the monkey
I thought the stuff with Spritle and Chim-Chim was mostly funny, but they had a few too many scenes, I'd agree. "I'm gonna send him some Chim-Chim cookies!" "YOU'LL DO NO SUCH THING" I lold. The fight scene in the mountains was hilarious. The first race weaving through the backstory of the family and chasing the ghost of Rex Racer was very effective on an emotional level. The climax was freaking amazing, especially Racer X's final lines. There was so much heart in the context of the family bond and the races throughout the movie. Overall it was great to watch it a second time so soon afterwards to catch all the cool things in the action sequences. When it came to casting, Emile Hirsch and Christina Ricci did fantastic as Speed and Trixie, and John Goodman was great as Pops as well. There were a lot of good things going on in this movie. Badass family fun! My favorite movie in recent years. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
