I really want to see this movie; it looks really good.

I saw it. Let's break it down.

Pros:
- Ellen Page (Juno) is fine and I want to bang her.
- The acting/story/interaction with Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman (the adoptive couple) is pretty well fleshed out. Good characters.
- Two Belle & Sebastian songs in the soundtrack
- A feel-good movie that manages to be somewhat interesting and fresh.

Cons (and I say these with much more enthusiasm):
- The first 1/3rd of the movie is incredibly over-written and "sharp". People don't talk how the screenwriter, Diablo Cody, writes. She's just showing off. "Look how witty I can be! Look at how many indie-music/culture references I can spit out in just ONE line!"
- You start to actually care at about the half way point (or maybe 2/3rds point) where this thing, I won't spoil it, happens. THEN you get interested.
- The soundtrack is chock full of quirky acoustic indie-pop tunes that narrate the story just a bit too much.
- The character Juno prefers Gibson over Fender
- I will likely never be able to have sex with Ellen Page.

I guess a lot of your enjoyment will come from how cynical you are.

There will be people who see Juno and think "Oh, what a witty, sharp comedy/drama about an important issue, teen pregnancy, shown in a non-condescending light! Loved it."

THEN, there will be those who are more along the lines of: "Juno is, for the most part, a soulless and pretentious indie wank-fest."

My verdict:

See it. It's overrated, but there's some decent acting in it. The empathy kicks in kind of late, but it's still probably a lot better than the other crap out there.

The Moldy Peaches and Kimya Dawson (of the Moldy Peaches) are win. D: I don't know what Kimya Dawson song is in there, but I know the actors actually sing the Moldy Peaches song at the end. ;p I dig that song. Not their best, but probably one of their most catchy. I think it's cool that they're in the movie ;[ Jerk faced GoldenRhino. Has to ruin everyone's fun. BRB GONNA CRY.

Too many weird cutesy acoustic tunes with shit-for-brains lyrics like:

"And in the sea there is a fish,
A fish that has a secret wish,
A wish to be a big cactus
With a pink flower on it.
And in the sea there is a fish,
A fish that has a secret wish,

With a pink flower on it."

Seriously. And the music always comes in at weird, too-obvious moments like the director's silently screaming to you: "HEY AUDIENCE - THIS SONG PROVIDES CLEVER COMMENTARY ON THE EVENTS OCCURRING ON-SCREEN NOW."

Not really spoilers: Page and Cera sing that Moldy Peaches song at the end, and I gotta admit...it's cute, and made me :3

I just saw the movie. It was pretty funny, although obviously flawed.

First of all, who writes the shitty-assed music with god-awful lyrics that seems to permeate every scene of the movie? I want to shoot them dead.

That "empathetic twist" was out of place and completely pointless. It was simply gratuitous drama that had no place in the movie, which should have otherwise continued its path of witty humor - in my opinion, the only reason for the movie.

Despite the wit, no one is seriously as obnoxious as Juno is portrayed to be, although I do condone the favoritism of Gibson (not Fender, GR). The movie is basically the same type of deal as Napoleon Dynamite, with the same feel - stupidity and wit all wrapped neatly in any number of one-liners.

Edit: There's also the forced dialog. It's almost like the writer was some elderly person who thought, "Hmmm...this is how young people must talk."

I looked it up, and it turns out that the screenwriter is a former stripper, phone sex operator, and I wouldn't be surprised if she were an ex-prostitute as well.

Well, this explains quite a few things, including her name.

How do such people end up writing screenplays? I mean, to find the next Casablanca, should we be reading screenplays from crackhouses and truck stations?
