Apparently Joe Murray is working on getting Nickelodeon to allow the release of the Rocko's Modern Life DvD collection. Man, I loved this show. Hopefully he will be victorious in his attempts.

Did you know that Carlos Alazracqui, the guy who plays Rodriguez (spelling?) on Reno 911, did the voice of Rocko? Apparently he's also doing the main character's voice for Joe Murray's new show, Camp Lazlo (which looks god-awful from what I've seen of it).

I would so buy that DVD set. Rocko was one of my favorite shows as a kid.

Camp Lazlo on the other hand sucks tremendous balls. Aside from the character designs, I can't believe that Joe Murray is responsible for both shows.

Rocko was glorious. I would not hesitate to call it one of, if not the best Nicktoon ever. I want those DVDs so bad.

I watched a few episodes of Camp Lazlo, and aside from Joe Murray's trademark art style, yes, I was also very disappointed.

Looking at the writing credits for Rocko though, Joe Murray is only one of many many writers who worked on the show, and a number of directors took turns over the years as well. The only credits for Camp Lazlo I can find online list Joe Murray as the writer, and some other dude as "story."

So it's possible that Joe Murray either a) Used up his best stuff on Rocko, or b) Just isn't that good of a writer.

I actually kinda like Lazlo; but Rocko still rocked more! I want that DVD set!!!

He also did the voice of Ricochet on "Mucha Lucha!"; also a great show (and the movie was actually good, too; but that's another post).

I think that the quality of kid-shows are dropping in general because kids are getting dumber. Think about the old-school shows: Doug, Rocko, Ren & Stimpy, Pete & Pete; all of those were shows were actually well composed and had a degree of artistic value to them. Now, if any decent show comes about (i.e. Invader Zim) it gets cancelled because it doesn't deliver the mind-numbingly simple humor that is so popular nowadays.

Perfect example: old school All That vs. new All That. The jokes on the new show are so repetitive and freaking stupid that it makes the old All That look like SNL (the good SNL that is).

*Puts soap-box away*

Sorry

We're not the target audience anymore for those shows.

I just wish I could turn on my telly and see the glamourous Skeeter with his honkin' nose. I totally miss Pete and Pete. I was young when it was gone. It was like "Where is the WHY questioning anymore?" I felt like I could learn a lot from that show. I would use it as a show to teach my kids.

That's right. Today they're making shit shows with no humor for the younger audience so that they won't have to work as hard in today's current generation.
